Forums - Gaming - So... Why everybody complains so much about Wii U's hard drive and not the PS4 one?

I had no idea the ps4 installs the physical game on the hdd. Like, seriously?? So what are the advantages for buying physical games? I don't get it.
The wii u is criticized for it's laughable 32gb but I don't see the ps4 so much better as an option.

Also, why did anyone complaint about ps4 new version with 1tb instead of 500gb? If Nintendo did the same thong with the wii u, I'm sure everybody would freak out but Sony does it and it's a clever move.

I simply can't understand why the hate with Nintendo. Whatever they do, people will criticize them.

I only buy physical unless it's an indie so i don't care.

However... i will never understand people who need more than 500gb.... have you guys tried... i don't know.... maybe.... uhh... DELETE THE GAMES YOU ALREADY FINISHED?

Seriously what's the point in having that 45gb single player game forever and ever installed? You are never going to play it again stop lying to yourself.

Lol

It's like dumping a girl right after having sex with her.

Some of us like to have a long term relationship with our games.

I totally get that but how many girls can you possibly fuck at the same time?

Do people really play 8-12 games "at the same time"??

Because the wii u's flash drive is prohibitively (and hilariously) small, to the point where it's almost impossible not to need an external hdd, whereas the ps4's is merely relatively small, though also needlessly complicated to upgrade.

Wii U's HDD is complete garbage!

I have an 8gb Wii U and can't download the new Fatal Frame V because its 16gb big! And if I had the 32gb well then that game would take up half of my storage!

At least with PS4's 500gb HDD you can still do so much more!

Yeah that's totally fucked up.

The only company that lets you swap the INTERNAL hardrive without losing the warranty is Sony.

The standard HDD capacity of this 8th gen was 500tb, so its not like they released an undersized HDD at the time of launch.

When Nintendo announced the "Elite" version of the Wii U just having a 32GB flash drive, the Ps3 already had versions of the console with 250GB harddrives.

If 500gb, or even 1tb is too small for you, Sony in their own web site tell you how to swap the HDD (SSD or HDD).

First you compare 32GB to 500GB.

Then you seem oblivious to why its necessary to install all games on the HDD. Think of this, WiiU games come on DVD type discs. Max capacity of 9.5GB. what that tells you is that a level in any WiiU game is probably no bigger than 2GB of assets that needs to be in system RAM at any one time. now imagine you needed to move as much as 5GB of assets from the disc to RAM to load up a level. and that you were doing that all from a disc as opposed to from a HDD which has average speeds that are over 4 times faster than a disc.

And then you somehow suggest that you need to "open your console" to change the HDD in the PS4, I wouldn't call sliding off something that's adequately called "the HDD faceplate" opening the console, just go look at what you need to do to change the HDD in an XB1. That's opening a console

The PS4 supporting external HDDs isn't a priority cause its the only console of the 3 that has instructions on how to change the HDD in the manual and that so doing doesn't void your warranty.

And lastly, you have options, if you don't want to go through the trouble of practicing a little data management, then you can spend $69 on a 2TB HDD and another 10 mins installing it into your console. its not a big deal.

Not to be a nitpicker here, but Wii U games are actually on BluRay-like discs with a storage capacity of 25 GB

Actually the gamers grew older over the past few gens and now a big part of the community got more money than when they were student, thus buy more games, and have less time to play them, thus some of us never actually finish games 100%.

As they buy more games that they can possibly finish they end up playing multiple games "at the same time".

Silly people with jobs, children and friends lol, it's their fault.

Vodacixi makes a fair point. Yes, 32GB is obviously smaller than 500GB, but the fact remains that all three 8th gen consoles have insufficient storage space. So-called AAA games are getting bigger and bigger. That fact, combined with mandatory installs that take up huge amounts of real estate, makes 500GB a lot less impressive than it sounds.

I'm having storage issues with my Wii U, my PS4, and my Xbox One. I'm sure many other consumers are having similar problems.

THANK YOU. Really, this is exactly what I wanted to say. All three consoles (including Wii U) have storage issues, yet Wii U gets more hate than the others (and just to clarify, PS4 and One also get hate, but NOT as much as the Wii U).

So the message here is that we should share the hate! 'Cause everybody need a little hatin' from time to time.
