Forums - Gaming - Soul series is the modern Final Fantasy imo.

I know my opinon might be the in minority here, but here me out. In my honest opinion, FF7 was the end for FF for me. It is the start of pushing anime style themes in the FF games.  I didn't like it at all and thought it was annoying. The emo lead chracter, the weird anime based storyline/characters,off the wall cutscenes and above all the cringe worthy cutscenes/gameplay. This annoyed me to death. I miss the medieveal darkage theme setting. You going through castles, dugeons, villages, ect. There was enough story, but not too much and it wasn't annoying for the most part. It seems the only series that can match up to the classic Final Fantasy while being "modern" so to speak is the soul series. Anyone else agrees with me?

You think we only play Final Fantasy games for the stories and the settings?...

I liked FF7 but after that it got way too much into "J-POP Backstreet Boys RPG" territory. I don't understand at all why Squaresoft thought that was a smart direction to go in. IX was good too, but it was the last one that was really free of that Boy Band/Pop Girl aesthetic.

Shoot, forgot about 9. Yes, that  one I liked.

I've honestly never played a FF game. But I just wanted to say that even though you and I rarely agree, I like that you take an active roll in the threads you make. It drives me nuts when someone makes a thread and then is nowhere to be found.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

We both agree the xbox one is the best console this generation so theres something.

The OP and thread header due not correlate at all. This a "whine about modern FF not being like classics" thread. What is the relevance of the Soul series?

I sort of do.

What, you do it for the gameplay?

Or maybe it is the music... *narrows eyes suspiciously*

Final Fantasy in the 90s was the series that pushed boundaries technically and in story telling. The closest games I can think of right now be Elder Scrolls, Grand Theft Auto, and Metal Gear Solid. I am not sure we will have another Final Fantasy VI and VII type jaw dropping moments that felt so far ahead of their time. The industry has evolved and broadened and the leaps in tech aren't so massive as back then.

Haha! We both agree that the Xbox One is a good console with a compelling list of features and games :P

We also both agree that the newer FF games seem to star some weird Korean boy band.
