Forums - Sony - What do you think of ps4 as media center?

I used my ps3 a lot for media center, but never felt it was really practical. Than I bought an apple TV 3rd gen and it felt like new life ! The user experience was far ahead ps3, even with the same services (apple TV has more), and even from an windows pc using air parrot made it way much better for streaming content from my pc than ps3 media center ever was.

But now, I want a ps4, and I'd like to know if I should retire the apple TV. I've been using ps3 only for bd when it comes to anything but games, having a good media center with a bd player would be great.

For me it's not as good as the PS3. There's still things missing. And dumb limitations. Like the PS3 remotes not working. I'd really just say go for a BD player that can do all this. And use the PS4 as just the game system.

PS4 isn't a remotely good media center. Still waiting on that update Sony.

Can't even use external hard drives. The broweser isn't the best for watching videos. It isn't a good media centre for me for those reasons. I don't care if it supports mkv files.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I heard Logitech was going to have compatibility for their universal remotes to use on it. Until then, I seriously could not consider it, also no external hard drive support either. It's seems a ways off from filling that spot, their focus is on games, I'm sure Sony is in no rush in implementing anything other than Vue anyway.

Don't know, i just use my ps4 for gaming & watching blu-ray nothing more, so i guess good for me !

it doesnt support external harddrives for installing games on it but you can use it to play movies out from there or play music

My PS4 is just a games console for me. It lacks basic multimedia functionality, and its UI isn't as fluid as the PS3.

I use my PS3 primarily as a media center now, since it can do everything and more than the PS4 can, in that regard.

i am here trying to thinkbof what the ps3 does as a media player that makes it better than the PS4 as the PS4 is right now.

-DLNA
-media apps
- play movies and music from external HDD
-expanded local video format support (mkv) meaning no need for transcoding anymore
-bluray player

What more does it need?

I am loving the PS4 as a Media Center since PlayStation Vue and the Media Player App arrived. No more Cable Box, and I moved the 1TB external from the PS3 out to the PS4. I honestly don't see any reason for any other media player from here on out. I also watch a ton of videos off the web browser, which holds up very well on most sites.

With Sony's future in the stock market being heavily effected by what happens with PlayStation Vue, the future of multimedia and non gaming applications on PS4 will only get stronger.
