Forums - Microsoft - Thinking of buying Xbox One - Need refresher on features.

Hey everyone.

My kids are dying for an Xbox One and I want Battlefront. Personally, I'd rather get the PS4 battlefront bundle, but all my kids uncles/cousins all have Xbox1's so it makes far more sense to go that route. Game library is largely identical anyways.

Couple of questions that I just don't remember the answers too and too lazy to research.

1) Can I buy one Live subscription and have any number of live login IDs or is it like X360 where you had to pay the yearly live fee per account?

2) Do any of the controllers come with built-in li-ion batteries or must I buy some damn battery kit?

3) Anything I should watch out for? Waste of money? I'm not buying a kinect.

4) 500GB or 1TB? I do plan on doing mostly digital so I'm leaning 1TB but how easy is it to change out the hdd?

5) Any rumors or ideas what the holiday bundles will be?

6) What are the current set of features (OS and network based) that Xbox One offers?

7) How well does the in-house streaming feature work? Can you pay 2 or 3 local player on a Win10 PC?

Well definitely go for the 1TB. And you might want to hold up on a full feature list as the Xbox One experience is currently undergoing a UI redesign. So there are some think about the system that may change in the near future. The system comes with a controller that requires batteries but I would highly recommend getting one of the new models with earphone jack and what not. Bundles consist of Halo 5. But its $500 so look at some of the other options if you want to save money. The Elite console is also $500 but comes with the elite controller if you are in to that kind of thing and a 1TB SSHD which will offer better performance with loading times. As far as holiday specials, Microsoft is know to offer much better deals than the rest of the year which is why they sell more during that time. I believe that you can use your Live Sub on your Xbox One and 360 concurrently.

I can't answer many of these, but:
3) Anything I should watch out for? Waste of money? I'm not buying a kinect.

You pretty much got it. Just don't buy a Kinect. Otherwise see if you really need the Elite version or not. Odds are, if you think like me about it, it probably isn't worth the cost increase over a standard XBone unit.

4) 500GB or 1TB? I do plan on doing mostly digital so I'm leaning 1TB but how easy is it to change out the hdd?

Go 1TB. Changing out the HDD on the Xbox One basically requires taking the whole system apart. It is nothing like the PS4 where the HDD bay is easily accessible, and HDD swaps encouraged for those that need more space. You can always use external HDDs for more storage, though it isn't the ideal solution for many.

It has Sunset Overdrive.

1 not sure what you mean but you can be signed in on the 360 and X1 at the same time.

2 no I don't think so. The battery pack is like 20 and it doubles as a android charger. It's a very long cord as well.

3 not that I know of. Kinect is used daily for me and is much improved from the 360 one. Hardly any support game wise tho soooo

4 If you get the 500 you can also grab a 2TB hard drive for around $75-90. I unboxed it plugged it in and it recognized and I formatted. It honestly took about 3 min total including unboxing.

5 Holiday bundles are a guarantee. What kind is anyone's guess.

6 it's getting a new UI in November along with the release of backwards compatibility for some games.

7 I can't help with that one

If you are going digital you can share your library with someone. Each game you buy digitally they will own the full game as well. If you have say a brother far away you share and only have to buy 1 game instead of 2 copies to be able to play with him.
Xbox has gotten better with updates that the community asks for. I don't have that website though.

1) Yes you will need multiple gold subscriptions for multiple users.  I just saw them on sale on Amazon or something for $31 which is pretty cheap.
2) Be glad it does not have the built in batteries as the competitors controller dies in 4-5 hours of use fully charged. I use rechargeable Duracell's and they last 10 hours or so of active gameplay. Much improved battery life over the 360s.
3) Not really. Though if you plan to use the HDMI-in feature for cable then Kinect is really nice. Its getting natural language support, think Siri, in November with the UI overhaul.
4) Not as easy as the ps4, but with youtube tutorials its not difficult. External HDDs also work super well and are a much cheaper option. 2TB external is ~60$ on a good day.
5) I'm sure they will have Halo 5, and maybe rise of the tomb raider bundles. They will more than likely have mega deals that come with 3-4 pretty big games for the same price. The console itself won't drop much in price during that time as $300-$350 is very capable of selling. They seem to be pushing the higher priced bundles with the elite controller and 1tb console which is not worth it in terms of value for me.
6) There are a lot.
7) Works the same as having your Xbox on. Its pretty convenient with the Windows 10 app and I use it for Fifa a lot and have no issues. Just easier than changing inputs when its hooked up to my gaming monitor instead of TV. As for coop it works the same way, depends on the game.

XBO is also getting The Division beta in December and I'm excited to give it a try. BO3 beta was also the most fun I've had with a CoD in years. Don't mind DLC going to ps4 first as I doubt I'd have interest in buying DLC for consoles from here on out.

Overall, you can't really go wrong. The bundles and deals will be happening over the next couple months and especially during Black Friday if you do not mind waiting.

I would get the Xbox one halo 5 bundle.

It's a 1 terabyte version, comes with the game, lots of entertainment apps such as Netflix, Amazon, hulu, hbo go, YouTube, and more.

It'll be $500 though, which is a bit pricy, but overall not a bad choice.

Not to mention backwards compatibility is soon to be available which will allow you to play over 100 360 games this holiday.

1) Despite what others have said, you do NOT need to buy multiple XBL subs. You purchase XBL and then you can nominate your 'home' Xbox (which is your first XB1 by default). When others log onto the console, they automatically share your XBL Gold subscription: http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/xbox-live/xbox-live-gold-sharing-features

2) You will need to buy regarchable battery back. Having said that, the XB1 controllers last a LONG time. When I first got mine, it took about 1-2 months for the bundled batteries to die (and I was playing it a lot).

3) Not really. XBL is the only thing you need in addition to the console. XBL will give you access to games for gold so even if you don't have much money to spend on games that will keep you occupied. If you already have XBL Gold, log onto Xbox.com/Xbox 360 and claim your games for XB1 before their redemption period expires. This month you get the last Tomb Raider game for free.

4) You can very easiliy purchase a seperate external HDD/SSD/HSSD and use that as your primary installation device. Running externally, over USB3 is also faster than the built-in SATA II connection (same for PS4 but PS4 does not have external access yet). Having said that, I would stretch to the Xbox One Elite if you can because the OS itself is installed on a hybrid drive and it comes bundled with the Elite controller.

5) We already have most of the holiday bundles - Xbox One Elite, Halo 5, Forza 6 etc.

6) I could be here all day - go to http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one :)

7) Watch some YouTube videos of people testing it. Overall the experience is very good. Personally, I would avoid playing via streaming if possible. This isn't a criticism of MS's implementation but the delay incurred with streaming, although barable, frustrates me. Most games will work fine but fast past games like COD, Halo, Forza etc are not the best experiences.

XBL: NathObeaN | PSN: NathObeaN | Steam: NathObeaN

just on the HDD size, to re-emphasise some that have mentioned it. Size doesn't matter, the best thing do is get a decent external USB 3.0 drive anyway, that way get more storage and it will be faster(unless you want to wait and get the new elite with the hybrid drives).

You only need one Gold membership, not multiple like someone above said.

Edit: Also just buy an external HDD, if you try to replace the internal HDD you'll void your warranty.  Also get the 1tb console, if you need more space then buy an external HDD like i said before. You can get a 5TB for 130 bucks on Amazon.
