Oh wait, now I get it! It's describing shoulder buttons that are also rotational dials. Interesting?!?

I hope that the next gamepad isn't a giant rectangle. Nintendo isn't making their stuff stylish. There are other design choices besides rectangle.
| TheLastStarFighter said: Everyone is missing the point of the pattent. This isn't about the look or # of buttons, that pattent is about the part highlighted in the box in the last diagram, item 24. This also appears to be a direct connection to the earlier pattent shown. The emphasis in this pattent appears to be on a new type of motion and/or touch controls as they talk about rotation and touching the non-face surface. It also describes using it with one hand or two in this way. I'd suggest Nintendo is envisioning a Wiimote-Gamepad hybrid of some kind, sporting a smaller form, one hand use but also a touch screen and dual analog. It also appears to have some new type of input mechanic. Certainly sounds promising! |
Oh. Thanks for describing it. I couldn't the technical jargon.
Interesting, rotational dial shoulder buttons, I can think of quite a few uses for those in puzzles and gameplay aspects.
Thought I'd simplify the abstract:
An example controller includes: a joystick provided on the front of the controller and at such a position that, in a state where the controller is held with one hand of a user, the joystick is allowed to be operated with a thumb of the hand; and a wheel which is provided atop the controller at such a position that, in a state where the controller is held with one hand, the wheel is allowed to be operated with an index finger and which is a button capable of being rotated.
Looks like a phone
Hmm, looks alright though, maybe a bit on the simplistic side of things.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
Hmm. A missing ZL/ZR may screw this concept, hard. And, why take away two buttons when you can add two? Looking at you Saturn.
I'm also starting to entertain the concept of a slider, one screen to slide over the other and both capable of touch.
Only the top screen needs to be capable of 3D if they want to.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

We can finally carry more than two guns in console fps games! More than 2 guns in Splatoon 2!
Rotating wheel shoulder buttons? Hmm. Certainly different. Actually can't wait to see what Nintendo are up too.
