Yeah I'd have to go with Super Mario 64, one of the first games that made me want to jump into gaming.

No lovey for Spyro?!.. lol

Never cared much for crash myself, and at the time mario 64 was a revelation, has not aged well at all though.

That simply isn't true. Replayed it with my buddy within the past year...still absolutely amazing.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Games were developed a lot quicker back then, you could do a lot in just a few months. But yeah, the inspiration was obviously mostly from the 2D Mario games. Crash Bandicoot barely qualifies as a 3D platformer and you could easily turn it into a 2D game without losing much, if anything, from the essence. It would probably be better tbh, but 2D wasn't cool anymore back then. The GBA Crash Bandicoot games were quite good actually, people claiming only the PS1 games were good are full of shit.

Agree, I have XS and it was a pretty cool 2D platformer.

You're kidding, right? I loved "Crash", but "Mario 64" is commonly held (by yours truly, as well) to be one of the greatest games ever made...

And yet the Genesis beat the SNES in the US and the PS1 destroyed the N64 WW. In that respect, I fail to see your point. At the time, both mascots helped their respective systems beat Nintendo so one could easily argue that it was a good idea.

My point is that I don't mourn their death. They had it coming with their arrogance. SNES beat Genesis anyway.

How can a fictional character be arrogant in the real world? Sony really was arrogant back in the PS1 and PS2 days though, and it came back to bite them in the ass when they launched the PS3.

I'm talking about the creators and or owners behind said franchises of course.

Woah, stop arguing with yourself!

Crash easily. Mario 64 is not even in the same league. Crash was amazing, Mario 64 made a good franchise worse. Mario 64 was average at best and even the graphics look horrible.

The graphics looked way better than Crash's creepy looking ones in my opinion. And how did Mario 64 make everything worse?

Crash looked and still looks superb the way it was. Not creepy at all. As for Mario 64, 2d Mario was fine as it was. There was no need for it to go 3d and mess everything up. Not only did it look weird as hell, but it lost some of its charm and actually looked creepy.

Cute.

Just ew.

No need for it to go 3D? Really? And no offense, but Crash had uglier graphics than that.

According to whom? Only place Genesis beat the SNES as I'm aware of was in the UK and markets like Brazil.

According to NPD data at the time.

"Indirect Network Effects and the Product Cycle: Video Games in the U.S., 1994–2002"

That's a rather obscure article that contradicts Nintendo's own reports...
