Forums - Nintendo - So, what were your expectations on Wii U in regards of success?

So, what did you expect for the Wii U?

Success 18 10.47%

Moderate Success 71 41.28%

Proud Third Place 45 26.16%

Complete Failure 38 22.09%

Total:172

I said it was going to be a colossal failure when they fist announced it,but I realized that since I am not blinded by the truth like hardcore Nintendo fans. From the name,to the hardware and the controller I said back in 2012 that the WiiU would be Nintendo's lowest selling console.

Why though? There was never anything thing there to indicate that type of success. The WiiU was never appealing to anyone except diehard Nintendo fans and it was obvious that the casual fanbase had moved on already.

At first, there was some third-party supprt, like Zombi U, which showed hope for the future, and the first party games we knew of that were coming out seemed in my opinion pretty good, like Pikmin 3, upon others. Also, even though most of the casual fanbase moved on, with the success of the Wii, it seemed pretty likely that it'd do well. Like I said though, my opinion quickly changed after it's launch.

All I recall is that when I first saw the Wii U, I thought it was gonna dominate the 8th gen, and just beat Sony and Microsoft

Boy, I was dead wrong.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I thought it would do a lot better. I still think it deserves better.

I honestly expected somewhere between the gamecube and n64.... never honestly thought it would be such a flop, but kinda expected it to not be a huge success... the controller propping up the price of the machine, and it's lack of performance... I still enjoy the console, and think its graphics are fine, but I also think the 360 and ps3 are still good in that regard. The wiiu should've launched for 199, at the most, and should never had used the gayest name ever (along with vita), and, nintendo announced the new president?

All I wanted was a Paper Mario

I thought second place behind PS4.

I expected about 60 million.

At least Gamecube numbers. But I don't think anyone outside Nintendo thought the Gamepad was a good idea.
