Forums - Gaming - 3rd party Half Life 3 Outsourcing

Valve has a magic touch with their games, as much as I don´t like FPS I absolutely adored Half Life 2, is just so damn good, I don´t think anyboy could make a Half Life or a Portal game as good as Valve does it, and I totally understand that they don´t want to release something that could not live to the expectations, that means that when Half Life 3 and Portal 3 come they would try to be nothing less than superb.

I would be overjoyed. Seriously I can't think of a better director to take it.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

I enjoyed HL2 but let's be honest, we only care about the story.

The gameplay was insanely good then, and even still.

Does this mean Half Life-3 confirmed?

Fuck it, how about a Netflix series?

Will gamers be excited or disappointed?

Disappointed.. The gameplay is one of the things that made Haf-Life awesome.

Not at all, Half Life 2 is brilliant because it´s gameplay, the story is interesting too, but nothing close to the level of insane fun that the gameplay has to offer.

Meh, I just want to know how it ends.

I remember when Half Life first came out. I'd been playing games like Quake where there was no real story or much variation in gameplay and then Half Life arrived. The story was fantastic and gameplay was much improved and more varied, it was a huge step forward in game design. Half Life 2 did much the same.

It could well be Valve have already come up with the story and gameplay ideas for Half Life 3 its just the technology isn't available yet. Maybe they intend to release it as a VR game for that fully immersive experience. Again we aren't there yet with regard technology.

Oh dear lord! ND making half life 3 would be fantastic, if not interesting at the least. Too bad it ain't gonna happen

Yeah, I'm one of those who played it when released as well, such an amazing experience. If we're being honest, games like Star Wars: Dark Forces already had more than usual Quake level of story and gameplay, but HL1 was really innovating and setting the future standards in FPS story telling and gameplay.

I liked HL2, but I was not amazed as much as with HL1 - I thought it was bit too linear, especially after what Crytek did in FarCry 1 (PC version, of course)...perhaps if HL2 released before FC1 I wouldn't feel that way, but there you have it.

I think Valve desires to make same impact with HL3 as with first two games, and I agree with your VR prediction, they're probably trying to sell another thing in package, just like Steam with HL2.
