Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft's Downloading Windows 10 to PCs That Opted Out of Upgrade

Windows 10 is an amazing operating system. People should definitely upgrade. Nowadays my PC just works and I don't have to worry about stuff not responding or the system crashing like it did in Windows 7.

Of course allowing people to decide for themselves is great too .

I have never had a problem with Windows 7. In windows 10 my audio drivers keep crashing and the start button doesn't work, videos don't play etc and it requires a restart, it wakes itself up from sleep randomly etc etc.. So yeah it has lots of problems, might reinstall 7 at some point.

Been using Windows 10 since day 1 almost, and so far it's been great. That is apart from the following:

So there I am, minding my own business, reading some pdf files for uni and underlining all the important stuff. I go to bed, only to wake up and see that my laptop restarted on its own. A whole day's worth of work lost because windows 10 thought it'd be a great idea to restart without even asking me. At least with windows 7 I had the option to postpone for a few hours, or to save everything and then restart. Can't describe how furious I was. But anyway. Lesson learned.

OT: This is definitely wrong and I hope they do something about it soon. My internet provide only allows me to download 100GB a month and realized that it must have downloaded windows 10 for all 4 laptops that we have in the house. That's just crazy. 24gb just cause.

Hmm, have ms said anything about this? Not really impressed with this news tbh. Yet to upgrade also.

The update u shouldnt download is KB 3035583
This is marked as important by MS but it aint nothing but shit to make u go mad. It will advertise u to go win 10. And i even heard that it installs win10 without u even knowing. If auto update is on then u will regret it

I wish it would stop asking me to reserve my copy every time I wake up my laptop. It doesn't do that on my windows 7 pc, yet it still sits there in the system tray.

Meanwhile it seems updates on win 8.1 are broken, it always hangs on preparing to install and never finishes. The updates are starting to pile up, 34 important updates behind already. The laptop still works fine though, they can't be that important. The last update in the list was Upgrade to Windows 10, failed. Coincidence?

I tried a few suggestions in the ms answers database but nothing works and I can't really be bothered to spend hours trying to fix the shitty update process.

Great, looks like I've got to disable automatic updates and go hunting for files. If they eventually force me to upgrade, and my copy of 7 effectively becomes a copy of 10, I'm done with Windows. I don't even know what I'll do instead, but I'm not letting them do this on matter of principal. Guess I'll be a Linux guy. :/

lol @ the end when he says he doesn't know if there's a clear way to stop all this from happening. Uh.. turn off automatic updates?

Isn't this something similar to what MicroSony were talking about before this gen where they'd kind of monitor your game library and what you buy, and automatically push demos for games onto your system so that if you wanna demo them, they're ready to go? Wonder if anything ever came of that on either system. Probably not since no one makes demos anymore.

Haven't used automatic updates in about a decade.

Watch the video they released a statement confirming this.
