Forums - Gaming - Will the new Apple TV be the PS4's only real challenger this gen?

Sound wave has really shown his true colors here. None of the big three fear Apple lol, they aren't targeting the same audience. Only Ninty at best has been affected but its not like they still haven't sold enough hardware this Gen. Honestly I think this is what the NX home console could be.

I said in this very thread Apple is not targetting the same audience. If Apple wanted to they could buy Sony and then have Nintendo for desert though, lets not get it twisted. Sony/MS/Nintendo are lucky Apple really doesn't give two farts about the traditional gaming market. If it was suddenly some type of priority within Apple, they would give those three all they could handle and then some.

It's not even like the three current console manufacturers are all that competent. Nintendo and Microsoft have been a clown show of mistakes this generation and Sony basically just wins not on doing anything spectacular but just sitting around waiting for the other two to mess up and then not doing anything stupid themselves.

This is the second thread about this. The traditional console market is shrinking, and Apple TV-like devices are growing. The smart-TV market is going to eclipse traditional consoles over the next 5 years. Consoles will continue to wither. Eventually the higher end Apple TV-like devices will catch up and exceed traditional consoles in terms of specifications.

PS4 will not be as popular as PS3 or Xbox 360, let alone Wii.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Yeah. Too bad the PS4 is selling faster than the PS2. And MGS V just moved 55K PS4 in Japan in one week. As I already see all those gazillion people hurrying to buy crap 2D indie games no one wants to play on console. Consoles (and PCs) are there to stay.

Are you being serious or is this a joke?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

LOL!!!

The consoles are Doomed thing is fucking laughable right now

The Ps4 is selling better than the Ps1, Ps2 and Ps3.

The Xbox One is selling better than the X360 (i think) and Xbox.

The Wii U is the only one that is flopping right now.

Like you, i dont think that the Apple TV (LOL) will take the industry by storm.

I dont care how much money have Apple in the bank, we GAMERS know better than that.

Thats why the company with the least amount of money but the better and most games have won 3  Gens out of 4 (Sony Playstation).

Don't think so. They would need studios and IPs to achieve that...and they have none as far as I know.

Realistically Apple laughs at the game industry in general. They could buy Nintendo and it wouldn't even dent their cash reserves which are larger than Microsoft and Google combined. Their cash reserves are larger than the US, British, German, French, and Canadian governments too.

Wouldn't the Nintendo board have to approve of the sale?  Nintendo would never let themselves be bought by Apple.

Let me know how you like those targeted ads on your "smart" TV.  I'll stick to dumb TVs.

The PS4 already has competition with the XBox One and soon enough, the NX.

This Apple TV will be a niche among the niche.

Yet the AppleTV is already crushing Wii U sales since 2012 and selling about on par with the XBox One. And this is with the old model and Apple barely supporting it/throwing any marketing behind it.

It's not a threat to Sony because it's clearly not going after the same audience, but saying it's a niche device is just stupid. It very easily could end up outselling the XBox One and it will certainly outsell the Wii U easily.

http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/04/23/apple-announces-20m-apple-tvs-sold-since-debut

20M units sold since its debut in 2007, as of april 2014.

http://recode.net/2015/01/27/apple-tv-hasnt-changed-in-years-but-has-sold-25-million-units-anyway/

25M units as of January 2015.

25M units in 8 years. I call that a niche product.

Completely Agree. However I think it may be just a matter of time before Apple enters the console business. Then It's safe to say that at least one console manufacture will be dropping its console business.
