Forums - Gaming - Former Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield advocates for a "pansexual Spider-Man"

Pansexual:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pansexuality

Andrew Garfield told Mic that he hopes the future will leave behind sexual conventions with the depiction of superhero characters.

- Andrew said:

"I'm excited to the point where we don't have to have this conversation, where we can have a pansexual Spider-Man,"

"What are we so scared of? Why are we so, 'No, it has to be this way, a man and a woman'. Why is that even a conversation?"  "We're scared of things that aren't us. Love is love. Skin is skin. Flesh is flesh. We're all wrapped in the same thing. I have no preference."

- this is not the first time Andrew Garfield has pushed for a change in Spidey's sexuality. In 2013 he told Entertainment Weekly:

"I was like, 'What if [love interest] MJ is a dude?" he said. "It's hardly even groundbreaking! Why can't he be gay? Why can't he be into boys?"

- On the other hand, Stan Lee himself thinks superhero adaptations should stick more to the original concept, although he isn't against the creation of homosexual superheroes:

"I think the world has a place for gay superheroes certainly,"

"It has nothing to do with being anti-gay, or anti-black, or anti-Latino, anything like that."

"Latino characters should stay Latino. The Black Panther should certainly not be Swiss. I just see no reason to change that which has already been established when it's so easy to add new characters. I say create new characters the way you want to. Hell, I'll do it myself."

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I don't understand why that is even important, it's a freaking superhero. The only way it would matter is if they made Spiderman porn.

Stan Lee said everything there is to say on the subject. Other comments like Garfield's are irrelevant IMO.

He should read comics more, get a better understand of how things work. Peter Parker of 616 is a straight male, which recently made a deal with the devil to make it so his marriage didn't happen and his secret identity remained secret to save the life of his Aunt.

That doesn't mean a new person who has Spider-man powers, wears a Spider-man costume or has the Spider-man mantle can't be gay. The reason Spider-man isn't? It's because Peter Parker isn't.

Stan Lee is right, changing characters to fit a profile is not the right step. It would be better to make new ones to fit, this is what Marvel are doing (kinda). Female Thor isn't Thor Odinson (see Earth X for that), Mike Morales is a Spider-man but not the Spiderman and socalled 'Black Captain America' is Falcon, Sam Wilson as the Captain America mantle while Cap is inexplicably old. I'm ignoring the Iceman thing, that's a little messed up.

And besides the Spider-man (or woman) of Earth-8545 is gay. Or was, she's dead like a lot of Spider-totems.

Marvel is messed up at the moment.

Hmm, pie.

Completely agree with Stan Lee on this. Characters should stay who they are, try and change that and you are just ruining a character. If wou want characters with different sexualities or ethnicities or whatever just create new ones, don't ruin the ones that already exist.

Exactly. Look what happened to Johnny Storm.

Hmm. Why don't people create their own superhero or character with it's own identity that they can relate to instead of repurposing other people's superheroes to fit their lifestyle or political agenda. It's insulting and sickening to try to steal characters and change 'em like that.

peter parker getting gay? like i care as long as the movies arent shit.

Well, here is some food for thought. Most of the superhero characters went through changes and reboots and storylines that are drastically different from each other. After and way before they started making movies and TV shows out the comics. So why stop now?

I don't see how expanding Spider-man's sexuality is a big deal. If anything, he is that kind of a guy. "Hey guys! I kissed a boy and I liked it!". It sounds like something spider-man would say.

Because most of them are completely incompent for that and the only way they can push their lifestyles and/or political agendas is by trying to ride on success of others.

Anyway, as Lee said, "The Black Panther should certainly not be Swiss".
