Forums - Nintendo - Does Nintendo often announce controversial games but they end up really good?

I dont know about you people, but somehow i noticed how many games nintendo announced at first had a really bad reputation but then ended up really good in the end product. Ofc there are times its the other way around, but as Super Mario 3D world. Many people disliked it at firstbut when it got released and more trailers it started to look really really good and its now one of the best games on the Wii U. Do you think you can judge too fast? or do you just judge the thing being currently shown? It happened many times before, like windwaker. So even though i got dissapointed in federation force and how it first looked. I hope nintendo can change my mind and somehow turn it around. Also if federation force turns out to be a good game worthy of the Metroid name, would you have more faith in nintendo in the future?

I'd say it's extremely common with Nintendo, actually. Probably because their games tend to be the sort of things that don't have enough flash or grittiness for an appealing trailer, but make a lot more sense once you're actually playing them.

Funnily enough, the reverse of how a lot of games end up.

I remember a lot of people were sceptical about Pikmin 3, and it turned out to be the best Pikmin.

Happens all the time. I'd say most Nintendo games have a lukewarm reception when announced/revealed but end up being fantastic.

I feel like the next ones will be Star Fox Zero and Genei Ibun Roku #FE.

The controverse with Federation Force is that it is a game nobody asked for, at least not before a real one. This is not the same case as Super Mario 3D World. 3D World was still a mainline entry in the 3D Mario universe, while Federation Force is a multiplayer mission based game with a different cast.

From an outside perspective, I see a LOT more "it's not want we asked for" comments from Nintendo fans than I do "it doesn't look very good" comments. Once it's released, that sentiment seems to be forgotten.

Happens all the time.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I don't think they've released any controversial games recently other than Splatoon. So no, they just don't release enough controversial games for them to turn out good. Splatoon turned out good, but its not like they have made any other controversial game other than maybe publish The Wonderful 101 which turned out good too.

I think Sony takes way more risk with their games, some of them flop, some of them turn out to be a hit. ANd they've been doing this since the conception of PlayStation.

thats not my point though. I feel like federation force doesnt look that much fun right now, and esepcially not good for a metroid game, but i know nintendo can turn it around, idc if its not what we wanted. Yes its not, but if something unexpected comes out of this and they see potential in federation force then i trust them. I can wait a little longer for a ''real'' metroid game. im not that impatient :P

Now watch Federation Force become GoTY.
