To cite pokoko in this very thread: "It will probably sway a few people here and there who need to sell their old console to get a new one but don't want to sell their games. Everything positive adds to the collective appeal of something you spend that much money to buy."

Additionally it may be more convenient to play your old games on your new console. The new console is probably properly attached to your current TV, the older ones may  be removed to the attic. Or worse, the older ones don't have HDMI yet, while the new one has. Little conveniences like that can have a big effect.

I disagree, playing ps1 on a crt tv with composite cables looks better than playing ps1 on a ps3 via BC, because that's how it was intended, HDMI gives the ps1 resolution nowhere to hide its limitations.

Just something about using the proper hardware, too.

Bolded underlined: Is your house filled to the roof with old tech?

Pretty much, I have 40+ consoles.

Fairchild F?

Backwards compatibility isn't that big of a deal, although it is a welcome addition to a new console. Many people who are wanting to revisit their childhoods are willing to re-buy and set up old consoles for the authentic experience. Unless it's something like the NeoGeo, where games are very expensive, you can pick up old consoles at flea markets, usually for dirt cheap.

Its brilliant move? MS takes the time to modify each game which will cost them more money than they will benefit. Its not my cup of tea because your physical xbox 360 games will need the internet for this.

It depends on perception. Old consoles look good on LCD TVs if you use anything above S-Video or RGB. And with the PS1 you even have a lot of other choices to choose from, like using PS2 and component Cables or 480P on PS3 via HDMi. I my opinion the later is the best option because the PS1 games are emulated in Progressive scan which make it crystal clear.

That being said there is no Difference between Xbox 360 games on original hardware or Xbox One because both consoles allready ouput progressive scan.

I think the bigger deal is the 50+ million XBox 360 owners who haven't yet upgraded to the current gen. If they are choosing between Wii U, PS4 and XB One, the XB One becomes the better choice, since they can sell their XBox 360, and still play their old games.

Those people are buying PS4 and will continue to buy PS4 since most 360 owners had a PS3 or bought one later anyay.MS does not have many Xbox only fans as the new generation is showing monthly.BC has been announced for months now and it has not sparked the X1 sales.I don't even know anyone who cares about BC period and I know a lot of 360 or former 360 owners. Most have already purchased a PS4 though.

Pretty much. Just got a friend request the other day from a friend and was surprised cause he had a Halo 360 (The dark green one) and thought he would go X1 but then see that he got a PS4 before last Christmas. Seems to be loving it too.

It matters to me, because i like the thought that Microsoft is investing time and money in developing something that doesn't make them any direct revenue at all.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
