Forums - Nintendo - Could our NNID help the NX be backward compatible without absorbing Wii U's architecture?

"In this perspective, while we are only going to be able to start this with the next system, it will become important for us to accurately take advantage of what we have done with the Wii U architecture. It of course does not mean that we are going to use exactly the same architecture as Wii U, but we are going to create a system that can absorb the Wii U architecture adequately. When this happens, home consoles and handheld devices will no longer be completely different, and they will become like brothers in a family of systems."

Where did I miss this quote? Suddeny the NX is a handheld again.

If Nintendo wants the WiiU to be absored by NX, they would have to go for the Cell architecture for the NX

We already know that they will going for (probably) ARM or x86.

That was first Nintendo talk about new hardware and platform.

It's funny because yesterday I read a possible leak on NX from a Nintendo Japanese Employee and she said that that is what Nintendo is planning to do <.<

What exactly?

use the NNID on the old console to link the game to your account, so that when you register your current NNID on the NX you can re-downlad it on NX...

Well we basically know that. Real question what's with physical copies of Wi iU games if NX will not have hardware BC.

It was a DBZ joke. Parts of the Cell architecture was bought by AMD from Sony and they used the tech to help with their A-/Fusion series of chips.

And for the post above the wording of that presentation could mean only the account is universal where it knows what games you have on other systems, this is to help with cross buy, they could use it for doing what they do now with the VC game between the Wii and Wii U offer them at "upgrade" prices, with out the need to trasfer between systems which is a lengthy process.

If they're willing to go this far I think that emulating BC will be in the future. I just doubt that Nintendo will give up BC especially if a fusion idea is happening. The DeNA account system will tell us a lot about the future. Hopefully Cross Buy happens and it is announced for NX as well.

One big flaw in your source ...

Note how it says "rumor" ...

Why on earth would Nintendo need to emulate Android and what exactly would Nintendo gain from that ? Even if they do go through the trouble for emulating Android, how are you so certain that they can do the same for the WII U which is probably the higher performant system than an Android ?

Lastly, what does your doubt have to do with their potential fusion idea ? You do realize that it's practically impossible to emulate the WII U with current mobile technology, right ?

lol of course it says rumor. Nintendo hasn't announced anything yet and we don't expect to hear any confirmation of anything until next year. And like I said, if MS found a way to bring BC to Xbox One, I think its possible to do it with Wii U and 3DS. Will it be complicated? Yes. But I still think its possible. To be honest I couldn't care less if it doesn't happen as long as NX went with the x86 architecture.

Wow. The OP also has a serious misunderstanding of NFC, barcodes, and BC by what is written. Geese. NFC can't scan barcodes. Barcodes don't have NFC readers. Barcodes are not unique amongst different copies of the same product, so scanning one wouldn't prevent anyone from scanning the same thing again.

And lastly, downloading a game isn't some magical nether realm. You still need Wii U architecture. It's literally the same data as a physical copy. My brain.

nintendo engineers aren't limited by scientic law or technology compatibility.  nintendo games run on magic and rainbows.

Interesting idea, though this is a lot like the Xbox One backwards compatibility (not that this is an issue, but I don't really see Nintendo doing this)
