Forums - Gaming - Publishers need to focus on online multiplayer centric games or else they're going to be f*cked in the future.

Again, look how long it takes to make those games. You will get them maybe twice a generation. They also cost a lot to make compare to an online game. Shifting focus to multiplayer centric games make economic since.

But it makes much more sense to make mobile free 2 play games like Candy Crush or Kim Kardashian.

They are easy to make, cost very little and make millions in microtransactions.

Multiplayer games are screwed. I hear Treyarch is shifting focus to Justin Bieber of Duty for iOS, and DICE is developing Matchthreefield: Fruit Company as an Android exclusive.

Console/PC gaming != mobile gaming. However, a lot of developers are going mobile gaming don't make that mistake. Hell, that fallout shelter did wonders for Bestheda and I thought it was boring.

Oh ok, Minecraft is multiplayer centric, therefore all multiplayer centric games will succeed and all single player games are doomed.

Im glad that you agree with me. However to add to it, main GTA titles come out twice a generation. While cod, bf, ect come out way more often. Its about what gives you the most bang for your buck in terms of investment. I gurantee you it takes a lot more money to make a GTA game than a COD game.

I don't even know why I'm gonna try responding to a troll thread but here goes.

GTA V had a budget of around $240 million. CoD tended to budget around $60+ million last gen. GTA V will by the end of its lifespan likely triple the sales of any CoD game. You're correct in that an annual release schedule will generally lead to better profits overall, but that's true of any game, not just multiplayer games. But that's as correct as you're ever gonna get with this argument. Everything else is unfounded babbling, comparing a game with a negligible marketing budget and a thrice-delayed sequel to a disappointing sequel to two good games to something that was marketed HEAVILY and was the selling point for an entire console. You should compare Titanfall to TLoU: R for a closer example of single player vs multiplayer focus with two new-gen games, but even then that's biased towards the latter because the PS4's marketshare is insane. There's no valid comparison point for you to make with the 8th gen yet.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Best call Naughty Dog and tell them to can the SP part of Uncharted and just to a pure MP game. I'm sure it would sell much better than the game they have in the works right now. Best tell Rock* to cancel their next Red Dead game too. I wonder what will sell better, The Elder Scrolls Online or the next Elder Scrolls campaign game? My guess, provided Bethesda doesn't completely screw the pooch, is the next game in the Morrowind/Obilvion/Skyrim sequence will sell more.

Sounds like someone might be preparing the ground for if a certain famous franchise that is only coming to one platform this holidays but coming to other platforms next year does disappointing sales. "Of course it did disappointing sales, it's not MP centric".

You look at PS4's top 20 games and it's a pretty good mix of SP-centric and MP-centric games.

The gaming world would become bland and boring as shit if everyone started focussing on MP.

Is MP important in gaming? Damn right it is. Is it the most important thing in gaming? No it isn't. What is most important? ORIGINALITY is the most important thing. Sometimes originality ends up being complete shit, but originality is the only way any entertainment industry keeps moving forward.

No. Nintendo says hi.

Exactly my point. Multiplayer games give you more replay value, much easier/cheaper to make. Publishers have to see this.

More replay value =/= More sales.

Also =/= more fun or enjoyment. I've played more hours of some multiplayer games than I have of, TLOU, but I enjoyed TLOU more and it is a better game than those MP games. You can't just break a game down to $/hour, because that's not the only aspect to a game's value to the player.

I'm going to be honest. I didn't read beyond the opening because you convinced me that your opinion shouldn't matter to me. Good job.

Goodness, that was silly.

Just how much multiplayer is important to gamers can be seen in PS+/XBL Gold subscriptions.
Almost half of the userbase does not even subscribe to the online portion of their console (meaning about 50% of gamers play single player games exclusively).

Uuuum nintendo is calling, they say hi, oh and square enix called they want to see you again, Ubisoft too says hi, I mean without being rude or something, but, are you a rat boy/girl, I mean you only talk about minecraft and call of duty and other shooters, have pkayed a FF game? I mean yeah final fantasy doesn't sell good cause it's single pkayer right? Kingdom hearts does not sell good right? Zelda does not sell either? Come on go play more games kiddie

Owned :)

I'd say there's more demand for single-player games and if anything, many games have a mp mode thrown in for nothing, like Sunset Overdrive, Assassin's Creed, Batman: Arkham Origins. I liked those multiplayers myself, but it's the SP that sells those games. Evolve is quite unique multiplayer game and it didin't do too well, with a decent SP I think sales would have been much better. And imagine there was a shitload of MP games to choose from, most would tank...

Edit: in numbers:
Best selling game on the PS3 and PS4. Second best selling game on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

And don't say it's a "multiplayer" game. It has multiplayer, yes, but the focus is entirely on the single player.

what does a niche title like gta prove?

You know europeans... they all crazy about their raceing games :P

I dont think single player games are ever going to go away btw.

I know zelda is now getting a 3 player 3DS version, however that doesnt mean you ll never see another single player one, or that it ll have to change to suit times. Zelda is fine as is, so are alot of other games.

Multiplayer is more like a cheap option to make sure you get some sales, even if you make a bad game... you just have to convince someone its fun to play in MP.
