Forums - Gaming - FF XIII - the 2nd JRPG that i couldn't finish

so i m a FF fan and enjoy most of the series like I, II, III, VII, VIII, X and XII and few more (included some spinoff). X-2 was the 1st Jrpg that i stop is playing after around 10+ hours due to the battle system that annoyed me a lot. XII brought me back to the series and it's actually my favorite in the series despite the booooring story.

as i dont have a ps3 and i owned a crappy PC, i only got chance to play it on steam recently as i gt myself a decent gaming laptop. despite the negative reviews, i still cant wait to try the game as i thought only ppl are not open minded enough for new things (same thing happened in XII)

anddddd i stop playing after around 18 hours. the story are confusing and boring, battle system are repetitive, the whole game feels like a tutorial and treat us like a begginer. Dont get me wrong, its not about the PC port - i have no lag or any issue when playing the game. Honestly, i am so disappointed that i wont even give the XIII-2 and 3 a try.

my gf did want to see the ending of the story, but she decided to watch youtube for that..

did i miss something to enjoy the game? as a big FF fan i m really disappointed... even consider to cancel my plan to buy a ps4 for XV. Anyone here tried the FF XV demo? how was it?

n for ppl here that looking for a good jrpg that are similar to FF .. try Xenoblade

Well, don't be too hard on yourself. It's a matter of tastes. I loved XIII, though.

If you want to understand the story better then read the datalog ...

As per the battle system there's really nothing anyone can do to help you there since you don't enjoy it but at that point the game should stop feeling like some "tutorial" that people over exaggerate about since the game has already introduced the vast majority of the mechanics ...

You didn't like the FFX-2 battle system?
Really?

weird...

No, I guess not. FF13 is not that great but the combat only gets good once you have a full party of 3 ppl otherwise it is very basic and unrewarding.

You are considering not buying FF15 because you didn't like FF13, an FF that is quite wildly different to what FF15 is?

I understand you are worried but being worried for a series you enjoy but in which you claim to have only stopped playing 2 of them just strikes me as odd.

for x-2, not only gameplay but also story.. i personally think that X has a perfect ending, SE just want to squeezemore money from it

the reason for me to worry about XV is FF series has been not so great since XIII, followed by 2 of it's sequel :( i really really hope 15 will bring the series back to it's quality

and yeah i already have 3 party members for battle before i stop playing.. it's much better than 2 ppl, but unfortunately still abit boring for me.. maybe i will try again someday :) (after i finish my skyrim+3dlc, few steam games and fallout 4 anyway)

I finished it. I liked it. I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the game, and the battlesystem was pretty cool :)
I never finished ff8 I thought that one had nothing for me, though I may forcemyself to finish it because I liked to finish what I start :P

Oh look! It's another "FF Fan"who doesn't like X2 or XIII! So many special snowflakes around here.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I don't think anyone could ever blame you for that..

Ehh from a pure gameplay perspective the Xenoblade combat system was pretty bad too. I can't really blame anyone for disliking the press X to win with the XIII system though. Even in the most basic form the XV system was a lot better than XIII's (at least in my opinion).

I finished XIII, even got the platinum trophy, no idea why though. I have no desire to ever replay that game, something that I have with most of the other FFs I played. X-2 is the only FF that's new than V that I played and didn't finish.

There're plenty of other JRPGs that I didn't finish out there though.

True.

I own XIII but haven't played it yet. Currently working on VII, and I'll follow up with Dirge Of Cerberus, and then XII. Can't wait for XIII, the game looks and sounds beautiful.
