Forums - Gaming - PC Port of Persona 5 Positively Improbable

http://www.technobuffalo.com/2015/08/19/want-persona-5-on-pc-youre-gonna-need-an-infinite-improbability-drive/

Persona 5 is coming in 2015. It will launch for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Those are the only platforms that have been annoucned for this highly anticipated JRPG.

That, of course, won’t stop gamers from asking about a PC version. One such fan reached out to Atlus PR Manager and all around nice guy John Hardin about a PC version of Persona 5. More specifically, the fan asked if it was “impossible.”

Hardin’s response? Full of Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy nerdiness. Decoded, it means that a PC version of Persona 5 is highly, highly improbable.

---------

Apologies if this news is old, but I didn't see it posted on the forums. As the resident Persona fanboy, I took it on myself to post this tidbit. If anything, I think this is more evidence that Sony is moneyhatting the game to be a PlayStation exclusive involved financially with the game.

Edit: I was a complete moron and derailed my own thread by using the term moneyhat. I am honestly simply curious if Sony is financially involved in the game at all (see my later posts for my thoughts -- it's mostly about Persona 5's strange development). I am not passing judgment on Sony, Atlus, or anyone.

No one was expecting it on PC at all, it would be awesome though, but no one can be surprised here

I think this surprised absolutely no one... I don't even think any of the SMT or Persona games or heck, even majority of the Altus games even made it to PC ever. (Correct me if I am wrong though)

It could be a Sony moneyhatt but since SMT has never been on PC either but it has been on Nintendo platform, I think Altus just doesn't care for PC rather than moneyhatting but I could be wrong

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I just edited the thread to be more alliterative.

Awesome reply.

Why would a Sony moneyhat even be a potential reason? They don't care about PC versions of their contracts (SF5 most notably).

Cause the OP said that Sony could have moneyhatted them to stay Playstation exclusive which is why I said it probably isn't

Duh, of course it won't be on pc, do you even know if ONE atlus game is on pc ? Just one ?

Their fanbase is on playstation for persona/others (catherine), and on Ds/3ds for Etrian odyssey/others (devil survivor).

Sony didn't moneyhatted anything. For Atlus, a pc port (or Xbox port, or WiiU port) is just TOTALLY USELESS, that's all.

Ppl who want to play persona 5 have a ps3/ps4 or will get one when the game is out.

Street Fighter is a much more popular game, so it would cost way, way more to keep it off of PC as well. Additionally, PC is potentially mutually beneficial for Sony with SFV, because cross-platform play increases the number of players online, which is essential for keeping a multiplayer-centric game alive.

Persona, on the other hand, is relatively niche and single player.

I don't think it's true that Sony doesn't care about PC as a competitor. If they didn't, they would be eager to put their IPs on Steam. It's just that, as the PS4 is still young, it does not have the player base to compete with PC at the moment. So Sony tries to avoid this by considering PC gaming to be a completely separate gaming entity. Those are just my thoughts.

As a side note, if Sony is actually moneyhatting Persona 5, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. It might possibly be a very good thing in some instances. Say, for example, if Sony were to be funding the localization of the game, I'm sure Sony would have the monetary resources to get Troy Baker to voice a major role -- something that Atlus evidently does not have, as Troy Baker has become much more prominent since his role in Persona 4.

Edit: But of course, as everyone else has said, it's probably also because Atlus doesn't put games on PC. I just have been personally wondering if Sony has been involved with the game ever since the game suddenly got a PS4 port.

I don't think it's moneyhatting as this is a regular pattern as far as niche JRPGs goes. The main reason japanese devs "hate" pc is that steam only has yen prices since september 2014.

Given recent releases, P6 or P5 vita might come to PC though.
