Forums - Sony - Until Dawn Impressions thread.

'One thing I forgot to mention is how awesome the Butterfly Effect system is. There's a menu that shows all the choices you make and groups them together so you can see how they effected each other. It's really well done and is fascinating to go through. Even the smallest decisions have a huge effect later on, which obviously is the definition of the butterfly effect. It's fantastic.'

I actually think it looks okay. I'm not a big horror game fan, but if it turns out to be good, and has a decent "Evil Dead" vibe, I'll pick it up at some point.

P.S. I have a feeling this thread is about to get very bad...

I share your sentiments. Let's please stay on topic and avoid starting any flame wars.

I honestly feel like this will be a decent game, and I've felt like that since I watched the E3 stuff for it. I got the impression that the developers were making an interesting experience that reflected what many games designed in a similar fashion have attempted, but haven't succeeded all that amazingly well at. Not to mention it is part of the incredibly starved horror genre that is all but dead in gaming with staple franchises like Silent Hills and Resident Evil either disappearing or reinventing, and most other attempts falling so flat they're barely worth a mention. In recent years, there are only a small handful of somewhat noteworthy additions to the genre, which I think is disappointing. Why can we not have classic, tense horror anymore for so many things? Because it's hard to do it right when you actually have enough power available that you have to focus on more than just making a mess of polygons pop up in inconvenient places periodically?

Even if this is campy and cheesy in places, it sounds like a valuable addition to the horror genre, and I hope that reviews are fair and that the game ultimately performs well. I have only seen a single negative preview so far, and it's from the guy who didn't even finish the game before deciding it was apparently garbage. It gives me some hope.

DO IT FAST, I DONT WANT TO FEEL PAIN !!!

I aint doing shit because I agree with you.

People need to stop dogpiling games they have no interest in just because its on another system.

I didn´t say anything wrong in the whole thread though, I even said 3 times that this guys opinion is not reliable (the one saying "Do not buy Until Down") but it looks like there is no space for opinions in VGC when even a mod supports this.

I will give my opinion of whatever I care, whenever I care, wherever I want, on Nintendo, Xbox, PC or PS threads, people need to stop feeling offended for absolutely nothing.

I think it might be worthy to note the developers sentiments regarding the game before the game has come out yet and compare it to Ready at Dawn's sentiments regarding The Order: 1886 prior to release.

Specifically, Ready at Dawn showed a great deal of bravado with their product prior to release, whereas Supermassive is a lot more hesitant and modest. They have specifically stated that they are unsure whether their game will be successful, but rather hope that the game will help move the horror genre forward.

Now, if you are completely cynical, this might actually be indicative that Until Dawn might actually exceed expectations. You could argue that Ready at Dawn was hyping up their game to encourage people to buy it without reading reviews. On the other hand, if Supermassive is being hesitant (and knowing that they have had reviewers do mock reviews of their game), they could be trying to imply that people should hold off on buying the game until they know more about it.

Edit: I also read Dualshockers a lot. Despite it being a pretty good source for technical details, it has an extremely strong PlayStation bias. I remember in the weeks up to The Order: 1886's launch, there were about ten articles a day for the game, evidently as a form of damage control. There was nowhere near as much coverage for Bloodborne (which is a masterpiece), and equally little coverage for Until Dawn. Just food for thought.

That's not something I would expect you to say. As a mod, you shouldn't be encouraging those types of posts...

I think this game could be good, but I'm still veryuch unsure of the quality of this game. It could be amazing, but I'd equally expect it to be horrendous.

Frankly this game looks like a second rate David Cage game and I'm not a fan of his best output so...

Oh c'mon, this can't be as bad as Beyond: Two Souls.

Heavy Rain was... respectable. Maybe a little over rated.
