Forums - Microsoft - Rumour: Xbox One mini to launch in October. To drop the blu-ray drive?

I predicted this a long time ago. It will be a cheaper xbox one and it will be great for a lot of people. What if you already own a PS4 or a PC and there is 2 or 3 games you want for the xbox one? This can be a cheaper alternative. I predict a $279 price tag for this console.

Well that would be a hilarious year for Xbox if true.

"We're bringing disc-based backwards compatibility to Xbox One!"

"And here's a new Xbox One model without a disc drive!"

Gee thanks.

The "I got tired of swapping discs" excuse is so lame. I can understand the space issue and even the "my kids/relatives/significant other damages my discs" issue but this is ridiculous, are you so lazy or so tired all of the time to do a simple disc change?

Not sure how many people would want to lock themselves into digital only.

According to stats, about 28% of core gamers. Now, split that 22% of three ways and we're at 7%. Now, factor in the current marketshare WW and you have something even lower than that.

In other words, another PSP Go.

I'd be interested in it. The X1 is certainly interesting but I'll only ever want 5% of their library. If they can make a cheap discless X1 I'd get it

Xbox Half

No, maybe Xbox 1/3

It is near the end of the end....

Trying to sell that HD DVD add on again, huh? It's not gonna work.

Really, that thing would heat up so fast. Besides, the One is already the quietest console. And what if backwards compatibility? It's just a rumor. If it turns out to be true, I'll bite my own dick.

I just hit me that this could actually work quite well if executed properly. Even as someone who typically gets multilple consoles, I decided that I actually have no interest in buying an Xbox One at this current rate. Getting it to $249 as fast as possible may possibly make it a really compelling secondary console provided they could make the system distinct enough in features and software. Bringing back the game share feature would help signifcantly.

1/3 of the size of the current? Even without the blu-ray drive, would that really be doable?

Apparently why xbox one is significantly big even without an internal power unit is because of more space for ventilation (to avoid rrod-situation again)

Bluray drive could remove a significant amount of space, then if in these 2 years the hardware engineer has figured out a solution to better engineering, it is possible.
