Forums - Gaming - How Do You Use Metacritic?

When I'm feeling down and I need a good laugh, I log into Metacritic. It's my favorite humor site!

I use it as an average of what critics. Usually, anything below 70 is not that good

Nah I don't use it at all. If a game looks interesting enough for me I'll buy it. I don't want other peoples opinions affect me. Gaming is more fun for me this way.

How do you find out about games at all then? Just go in shops and read the back of boxes? I mean if you are hearing about new games from Game journalists then they are normally very opinionated one way or the other towards any news being put fowards about a game.

Were're not in 1985, but in 2015.

You have official trailers/vidéos/infos  /etc, it's more than enough to see if you will like a game or not, without any review.

i just use metacritic to see user reviews and press reviews it might help on buying me a few old games but if it is a new one and I'm interested already in it, due to the trailers with gameplay, etc... then I don't normally use metacritic.

In 1985 you were less likely to see a CGi offical trailer of not gameplay to be honest. You might have seen a cringe worthy video of a 40 year old dressed as a teen saying a game is radical... but that's another story.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I use it as an example of the flawed review system. That's about it.

Under 80 - wont buy, wont even bother looking in to the game. It's all varying degrees of shovelware.

80-85 - OK, I MIGHT read a few reviews to see if it's of interest if its a genre I'm in to. Will probably torrent games of interest and then buy ones I think are worth having.
86-90 - Will read reviews and info about these games. Will probably torrent games of interest and then buy ones I think are worth having.
91-95- if its a genre I'm interested in will most likely buy
95+ - guaranteed buy

I find it nearly pointless. The games that get higher ratings are games that are generally heavily commercial, and are scored based on a checklist of commercial standards, and that never includes actual fun or interest factor, which to me are the two most important things.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I use Metacritic?

Jokes aside, I sometimes check Metacritic when I want to get a rough idea about something. It's not perfect but if a game's metascore is less than 50, it's probably rubbish. And if it's good, I should probably look more into the game. Other than that, I don't really see much use for it. Scores aren't very reliable because they're subjective.

I use it one way. If the game is like 60 or lower. I don't even bother looking at it anymore. The rest, I will look at videos and articles. Then decide to purchase it from that. I use it to filter the shit games.
