Forums - Gaming - How Do You Use Metacritic?

During sales you always have to keep an eye on what caused the scoring of games to be poor,

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-vita/earth-defense-force-2017-portable

A prime example where people were extra critical of the game based on it launching at £35 but yeah, it was on sale a while back on psn for €2.70 I believe it was, which means you can throw out the scores where reviewers were turned off by the entry fee and actually look for scores based on gameplay.

Nah I don't use it at all. If a game looks interesting enough for me I'll buy it. I don't want other peoples opinions affect me. Gaming is more fun for me this way.

How do you find out about games at all then? Just go in shops and read the back of boxes? I mean if you are hearing about new games from Game journalists then they are normally very opinionated one way or the other towards any news being put fowards about a game.

After I bought Driveclub, I lost all faith in metacritic scores.

Yeah, that's why I don't just look at the average score, I look at whether a game scored better or worse overall and then read the best and worse reviews. It just gives me a decent overall view. I'd still watch youtube vids and read what people are saying on forums as well of course.

The PS5 Exists.

Metacritic is not very reliable no Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Asian, Russian, Arabic, Latin American reviewers there only from the west. Its quite racist imo

I don't. I prefer looking up gameplay on YouTube to verify if I'd be interested, then look to see how YouTubers are enjoying it / any control issues with it

As to the 'how do you find out about games' question, sad as it sounds I subbed to the official PlayStation YouTube channel. Basically, if a game is coming out for PS3, PS4, or Vita, it will get a trailer on that channel. Some trailers are crappy, so I have to look for gameplay vids if they exist.

Ever since the Order I've stopped caring entirely. I don't know what the reviewers were smoking on that one.

I am Iron Man

I use it mostly for the lulz. Kinda gave up on reviews during the 7th gen, so I rely on other means of informing myself on titles, which isn't that hard in this day and age.

Not at all. It's mostly bullshit.

I use metacritic as a general indicator of the game's quality, then I do more research to see how I would like it. I've bought games below 70 and really enjoyed them. One of my favorite games of all time has a 54 on metacritic, so metacritic scores alone don't determine if I buy a game.

Whenever a new movie releases, I check Metacritic to see the score it has. I get a general consensus based on it. If it affects my view of the movie? Yes. But I know it's an aggregate score of many reviews, and there are many things to consider on what makes a movie good or bad.

When it's about games, I also check the scores. Whenever it's above 75, I'm interested on the game. If it's above 80, it is much more likely to be bought.
