Bingo!
People trying to make it seem like Microsoft won last years holidays because of announcements/games/ads instead of their CRAZY ASS deals is hilarious.
Why did Sony won the latests NPD when according to some, Microsoft DESTROYED Sony on E3 with "amazing" reveals?
This year probably will be the same than last year:
"Buy a 300ml Coca Cola and a Snicker and we will gift you an Xbox One with 5 games of your choosing" type of deals.

Right, price cus with bundles in the holiday always sell consoles.PS4 has yet to have any price cuts and even without bundles sales have remained spectacular.

It doesn't though. Not even E3 helps sales much. The sales don't really increase until the games they announce actually release. |
I bought a ps4 last July after E3 because I couldn't wait much longer and would rather spend the money now and have more to buy games later. E3 sold consoles for Microsoft this year. Conferences do boost sales "this awesome shit it coming, jump in now to not miss it later" similar logic to pre ordering.

But part of me feels like this console war was over after E3 2013. After a disastrous launch, the Xbox One doesn’t seem like it can ever catch Sony, barring some unforeseen catastrophe that is unlikely to take place. It’s not a failure by any means, but the PS4 seems like it’s always going to be millions of units ahead no matter what unfolds the next few years.

Do what? I believe Sony has a few exclusives coming in the latter part of the year. It seems that some people think because Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and Clank have been pushed to 2016 that there's nothing exclusive coming from Sony. It's the same ignorant and one-eyed world view that allows people to claim with a straight face that PS4 has fewer exclusives than Xb one, when the facts actually show the opposite.

Yeah, but see the bolded. Not saying they don't have any effect, but in the grand scheme of things their effect is negligible. The only way a conference could really have any meaningful impact on sales if they were to launch a big game there and then or announce a price cut. |
Hmm.. I'll give you that

Microsoft does indeed have a strong shot to gain ground in the North American territories if that is what Tassi-San is alluding to. Apart from that, the Sony Event really wasn't designed to increase chances of victory. It is, like many events, to entice and exctie supporters of the brand for future products.
Finally, regarding his last paragraph, I still am unsure as to why the media is bent on reiterating a point that has been well known since the disastrous Xbox One Reveal way back in 2013. Gamers only care about quality content. Sales to gamers are akin towards power levels are to the Dragon Ball series; both being unimportant.

I feel like PSX was more for the fans than anything.
Obviously it was a business decision, but building consumer loyalty is part of business

...doesn't work real well on android. On PC with adblock this website is a breeze and fun. On my phone without adblock it's an arduous affair to just read the contents. Between the aforementioned auto-scrolling, random video ads popping up mid-comment, and automatically redirected to Google Play store for whatever BS 'game' that bought ad space...it's fairly unwelcoming.
Um...on topic, while PSX may not have had an effect on holiday sales, it did set the tone for at least first quarter 2015. I'd say MS should do something similar, but I don't think they have the quantity of content in the pjpe, and certainly not much due outside the Fall/Winter seasons (which is what their E3 presentations are for).

The point Rol is making (I think) is that PSX had no discernable immediate impact on hardware sales in the USA. Therefore, what is this Forbes guy on about thinking MS needs an equivalent event to somehow claw back market share?
Seems the guy just wants MS to win the USA and is looking around trying to find reasons other than providing compelling games to be MS's magic bullet.
