Forums - Gaming - PS4 still has the best features of current gen consoles

For all the whining about certain smaller things missing, it doesn't get enough credit for the awesome (and exclusive) stuff that it has

One of them being the PlayGO system, which lets you play your digital games after an initial download instead of waiting for it to complete. Some examples:

TEW downloads 4.5gb. It then downloads additional 35gb, or so, to fully complete the download. But that initial smaller download gives you hours of playtime. It let me finish the first 3 chapters (which took around 2.5 hours) and the download actually finished before I moved on to Ch 4. I don't know if CH4 would've been available with just that initial download or not, but the first 3 is already pretty damn good.

Another good use of it is Driveclub where you choose what you want to download on the game's in game menus. You can prioritize modes, tracks, specific cars, etc. It's almost like you're streaming the game until the download completes. Very nice.

This system can do a lot of great things, clearly. It's just a shame that some developers take the lazy way out, make the initial download nothing more than the short first area and then make you wait for the rest. Hopefully more devs will follow the above examples

Aside from that there's Share Play, as you know. Personally this has been more useful for my friends than for me...Lol. Pretty much all I've used it for was to help others, who always invite me asking to get past a section of a game they are having trouble with. In fact I have a relative who owns both XB1 and PS4, he generally asks me to do this on both consoles. With PS4 it's done just like that, on X1 he needs to wait till I have time to go over there.

Last but not least Remote Play is more known. The update with 60fps support just made it even better. Several games feel exactly the same as they do running on the PS4. Of course, this feature does require additional investment.. Whether we're talking about Vita or PS TV. That'd be the downside. On top of that Sony should also allow the DS4 to be paired with the Vita for further improved Remote play controls.

So yeah, even though i want PS1+PS2 BC, and it's strangtely missing something as basic as friend notifications, it's still the best feature-wise, imo. Mainly due to these 3.

In your opinion, of course. If I'm not too busy, I'll make a full list of tricks the PS4 can do and the XB1 às well.

I don't know about who has the better features overall, because I don't have an X1 and haven't looked at what if offers in-depth. But I absolutely agree that Sony do not get enough credit for some of the features they have added, especially SharePlay, which I think is a level above any other features that I have seen this gen.

Yeah, I also thought that there was too much constructive-ness when I made the thread about what features were missing :)

So thumbs up to you

There are quite a number of things the PS4 does right. For me though, Sony won the feature race with shareplay. For your friends to be able to play games they don't even own? that has got to be the most innovative feature this gen across any platform.

And I think people don't give nearly enough credit to how efficient the PS OS is. Even MS had to change there's and is making it function more like the PS4s albeit vertically instead of horizontally yet no one seems to notice that.

But does it have a touchscreen in its controller? No? -> Fail

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I think PlayGO is the one that deserves more recognition, considering many ps4 users don't even know about it. It makes digital purchases a lot more convenient. And more awareness would also encourage more devs to make good use of it instead of the lazy option that some go with

When I was downloading Driveclub PS Plus Edition, I have noticed the prioritizing function. It is a pretty smart addition and one I hope many games in the future take advantage of. And the PlayGO is pretty damn good when downloading a huge game, not to mention the updates of the . However, it becomes an annoyance if the game is fully online as you need to download it completely for it to play. The feature is still a Godsend for when I want to play the game at the moment.

That could be really useful for Senran Kagura's dressing room.. Hmm

That play and go feature is also on xbox one. Was downloading Forza 5 and at a % (5?10? or20? not sure) you can start with the career and do the first career races etc.
