Hidetaka Miyazaki directing Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne DLC, says he can handle both

Hidetaka Miyazaki is unfazed by the challenge that comes with working on two highly-anticipated projects.

Everyone was busy with Dark Souls 3 coming out of gamescom. Series director Hidetaka Miyazaki was on hand to demo the game to the press. While Sony did not show anything from the upcoming Bloodborne add-on, everyone took some time to ask him about it anyway.

Miyazaki has confirmed that alongside the development of Dark Souls 3, he’s also directing the Bloodborne DLC. Speaking to Gamespot in a new interview, Miyazaki was quick to remind us that this isn’t his first time directing two projects.

“When I was doing Demon’s Souls, I was also working on Armoured Core: For Answer. Even for the original Dark Souls, I acted as producer and director,” he said. “The bottom line is, I think I can do it. I believe I can do both the Bloodborne DLC and Dark Souls 3.”

He then added that Dark Souls 2 director Yui Tanimura-san has joined the Dark Souls 3 team. So while Miyazaki works on the game’s core design, the rest will be handled by other directors. This also gives him time to work on new projects that carry the same ethos.

“As long as I am listed as game director on the end credits, there’s a certain level of quality the game needs to meet. I can guarantee that the game quality will reach that.”

Dark Souls 3 is expected early 2016, while the Bloodborne DLC is still without a release date.

Around the Network

Releasing DLC for a previous game alongside the next game in a series is a bit off for me. Really wish they'd stretch this out to be every 2 or 3 years instead. Both the AAA franchises that've gone annual (Assassin's Creed and CoD) have gone down in people's estimation since doing so.

As long as they keep the great quality I am happy!

To be fair, they are two separate IPs. Though I get where you are coming from.
