Forums - Gaming - Is Microsoft going to lose $$$ on making Crackdown 3?

So, I made a thread earlier about me wanting to see the ability to fully purchase PS Now games for endless streaming, and I got (as I thought) hammered down by comments of people saying its going to be too expensive and that "its never going to happen, even if Ps+ is made mandatory for it", and that made me think of a newly announced MS exclusive; Crackdown 3.

C3 uses the cloud to get the power of over 20 (or so they say) xbox one's. Now, the only money MS gets to cover up the maintenance cost of servers is whats left of the 60$ people spend on buying the game. So, if that small amount (maybe around 10$) is enough to cover the maintenance cost of servers for over 20 Xbox One per user, wouldnt Sony be able to implement the ability to fully purchase games for endless streaming through their PS Now service if they made PS+ mandatory for it?

Or is MS losing a lot of money by allowing cloud computing for C3?

Thoughts?

They own the servers so they can't be losing money. But the game itself just doesn't look good enough to be anything more than a proof of concept project. And that's okay. I don't think Crackdown represents the ultimate version of this tech.

But the idea of cloud computing has many different applications. Sony is running full games on the cloud. My company deploys servers in the cloud.

But ultimately this is just a demo.

Azure is not used only in gaming. MS rents its servers.

They're not losing money but afaik the whole point of these servers is to make money by renting them out to companies etc. I doubt we'll be seeing a lot of games making heavy use of them, as i'm sure the space could be better used to make money... instead of for stuff like shooting holes in walls and blowing up buildings.

MS, like all companies given the opportunity will spin something to make it look like something else if it could somehow paint them in much a much better light. Its ultimately all just BS PR talk that only the most gullible people swallow. Unfortunately gullible is what most gamers are these days.

MS has got servers, Netflix have got servers, Sony has got servers everyone has got servers. How or what these servers are used for vary from platform to platform. MS "azure" servers were not designed specifically for crackdown or any other game that uses that kinda tech. The tech used in crackdown is just an ingenious by product of already having servers that run XBL and any number of windows related applications that we do not know of. So this cloud computing talk is just marketing.

Take Sony buying gaikai, they basically were buying servers too and the talent to run them without having to start from scratch to bolster what they already had. The by products of that venture are PSshareplay, PSnow, PSvue...etc.

MS isn't losing money with crackdown. Their already existing servers makes what they are doing in it possible. Not that servers were built to make crackdown. Its a by product.

Gamers have been gullible since forever. Except on that shitty E.T. game lol

Makes you wonder how many servers Sony has with Gaikai. Anyone have any idea?

Like all games, they can always just shut the servers down when the game becomes less popular. Not the same thing as a psnow that would always require a server to play...

But the cloud secret sauce is only for multiplayer modes, which means you must have a XBL Gold sub. Therefore Teh Cloudez cost is covered. XBL Gold is high profit, so siphoning off some of that to pay for the cost of cloud computing isn't such a big deal.

In a nutshell, I don't think MS funded Crackdown 3 hoping to get rich.

I feel Crackdown 3 is happening because MS wants to give that IP another shot and its an opportunity to try something unique.
