If this bombs for good, then let this send a message to Fox that we are done with their version of Fantastic Four. The next Xmen is looking shitty too so that might be the next one to have a low attendance.

I really doubt that's going to happen.

Days of Future past was a mess.   Apocalypse should have been an Avengers Boss,  he is an Omega mutant, the dude is ridiculously mega powerful.  I think that movie will be a mess too.  Also he needs to be CGI in order to have the face he has in the comics, and not a dude in make up.

Most people loved Days of Future Past though and I personally thought it was a really smart way of doing a reboot. It did really great commercially and critcally among critics and consumers. I'll admit Apocalypse looks like a mess right now, but I learned after DOFP's Quicksilver not to judge before seeing the final movie.

DoFP has some logical inconsistency problems and coherency issues with the previous movies. It would have worked better as a reboot without any returning cast from the first 3 movies. Having returning cast means people looking for continuity. And in theory at least the start of DoFP should have continuity with the previous movies, because the reboot is what happens to screw up with the timestream during the movie.

The final tally for F4 is in for the weekend, and it's lower than the estimate based on the Friday and Thursday night box office. This means really poor word of mouth (not surprising) meant lower receipts that is typical for what was already a pretty pathetic start. The second weekend drop is going to be brutal. Probably under $5 million if they're lucky. It will be pulled from screens inside a month. $50 million for the USA is a far off dream and it makes Green Lantern's $116 million positively marvelous by comparison. Actually, Green Lantern's opening weekend in the USA is quite close to F4's all countries gross for the opening weekend.

Green Lantern was a flop, and it made $216 million in the end. What does that make F4, which will be lucky to make $100 million? At least it didn;t have Green Lantern's $200 million budget. Who the hell thought a Green Lantern movie would turn a profit with a $200 million production budget? People going insane over the success of Iron Man?

If they really want to make a good Fantastic Four movie they need to go about it differently.

First, you start with a Doom movie. Doom is really as important to the franchise as any of the four, but his origin story just doesn't gel with theirs. Both movies tried to tie the origins together, which just didn't work. He's sort of like the reject of the Fantastic Four which just isn't right.

So, you make a movie focusing on Doom. Have Reed and Sue in their as ancillary characters to establish Reed and Victor's grudge, but have the main focus be on Doom's conquest of Latveria. Sort of an anti-hero. He legitimately wants the best for the people of his country, but believes that him having absolute authority is what's best. Easily the best villain in Marvel's history,so why fuck around with his origin so much? Have a comic writer like Hickman contribute to or at least approve the script.

So then you have the Fantastic Four movie. You already introduced Reed and Sue at least, so you have a little less in the way of exposition to do. But don't put Doom in it as the villain just yet. Instead use Annhiulus as the villain. Change up the origins a little bit. Instead of Reed Richards just trying to go to space or to the negative zone just because he can, have it be in response to some perceived threat from the Negative zone. This way, the Fantastic Four are actually doing something heroic instead of just fixing the mess they created in the first place with their mucking around.

So, their is a threat incoming from the negative zone, and the US is vastly unprepared to deal with it. But... there is someone who is equipped to help the now empowered Fantastic Four respond. Reed has to go to his old roomie Doom to form an alliance. This allows us to further explore the relationship between Doom and Reed as they begrudgingly work together to mount an invasion of the negative zone. And naturally they succeed and save the day and blah blah blah, and in the process Doom realizes how he can use what he finds in the negative zone to further his own goals.

This leads to a third movie with Doom flexing his muscles on an international stage. And, naturally, the only mind capable of opposing him is Reed Richards. So now the conflict between Reed and Doom that has been building for 2 movies will come to pass. And it won't feel rushed or force. It will feel well built and climactic.

So simple. Fox can thank me later.

I said might. I agree though, that fox is has a good chance of succeeding with this film, but a message is being sent with the reception to Fantastic Four.
