Forums - Sony - Can Sony make up for no GamesCom in the upcoming conferences?

No, I think there is no way for Sony to counter what MS has done. Not possible. They would need to be able to announce release windows for three games being advertised for several years, announce a multiplat sequel and give a lot of vague promises.

Cannot be done, MS has beaten them full throttle.

I dont think Microsoft can ever recover from the lopsided defeat they suffered from e3 2015. Sony literally made Microsoft bend over and cry ff7.

Like I said, it doesn't matter. Sony doesn't have to do a thing. As a corporation their only goal is to sell units and generate profits. In this they are doing fine. As long as the other 2 don't cut into their market share or profit margins then why should they do anything? There's no reason for a price drop. Their profit margins are high. They worked out exclusive advertising deals. They money hatted some features. The desperate times of the early days of PS3 are far behind them and Sony is rolling in the money. If I were Sony all I'd do if I were asked about how I can make up for no gamescom I just point to TLG, Shenmue 3, FF7, and NMS and cash the checks.

No man skys and FF7 will more than likely be on xbox "console debut" and "first on playstation" just like cuphead and tomb raider. I want to see them invest into their own ips or lock down third party games like horizon and tlg (which we may or may not see).

Doesn't matter. Perception is reality and thanks to advertising exclusivity they can point to any random 3rd party game, declare it a exclusive, and drop the massive advertising campaign for it. Just look at what they did for Destiny and Watchdogs if you want examples. Then declare said 3rd party game better on PlayStation and cash the check. Look at what they are doing for No Mans Sky. Its a indie and Sony fans are treating it as a exclusive. It doesn't matter that NMS and FF7 and Shenmue and SF5 and Persona 5 and almost every other game is multiplat. Sony can treat any 3rd party game as a exclusive and its a win. Sony has this generation in the bag and outside of some disastrous PR fiasco there is no wrong they can do.

NMS is made by an indie dev but its a AAA game. Also FF VII R is a timed exclusive so Sony is doing with it what MS did with ROTTR and Shenmue, SF V and Persona 5 are PS4/PC or PS3/PS4 games, and Sony is doing what MS did with games like Titanfall (XB1/PC/360) and Forza Horizon 2 (XB1/360). Sop they aren't the only ones doing it.

Yes, but it won't pay off in the long run. What if Sony messes up next generation at the begining or Microsoft gets the head start or another possibility Nintendo pulls a suprise and has a lot of third party support with their console?  You have to then rely on AAA exclusive titles and make sure there is a huge fanbase behind them and not some small niche group in order to get people on board with your console. Microsoft will always do fine due to Halo, Gears and more than likely Minecraft in the future. You have to make sure you have key exclusive franchises to push your console. I agree third party is still more improtant, but key franchises can help save your console from utter destruction. Look at what Halo did for xbox.

I don't think they need to do anything. Seriously the only new game announcement MS had for GC was Halo Wars 2. And that was pretty much already evened out by Dragon Quest 11 announcement a few days ago.

Anything Sony announces at Paris games week and PSX will be extra ammo.

I have a question, since you're talking about exclsive marketing and the effects it has, how is this any different than what Microsoft does????

Batman: Arkham Knight and Destinty are two games that I have seen multiple people assume was a PS4 exclusive from TV ads. How is Microsoft doing the same thing with COD (before this year), Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Tom Clancy's The Division any different than that? Sony treating FF7 or SF5 as an exclusive isn't any different than MS treating Titanfall or Rise of the Tomb Raider as an exclusive.

It's honestly not really any different, Microsoft was able to do it last gen, because they had the marketshare to leverage it.  Bolded, however, is an incorrect analogy, since there's been no equivocation from Capcom on this.  That's exclusive.

I mentioned SF5 to counter Titanfall, a game that will never go to the other console (even though the unannounced sequel likely will). DR3 may have been a better analogy.
