Forums - Gaming - Pro-tip to Square Enix on FFXV: Shut up and just give the marketing rights to Sony!

Should Square Enix give the marketing rights of FFXV to Sony this early?

Yes. The incompetence is real , SE! 68 89.47%

No cause some people just... 8 10.53%

Total:76

At this rate, everything good they've done will be undone by their lack of realization of their incompetence on advertising the game. Sony knows how to market this one, just like FFVII and Shenmue 3. Just give the marketing rights to them and just focus on the game.

Honestly... yes.. Sony seems to do a fantatic job with marketing.
That way they can just focus on the game.

Pro-tip to Square-Enix and any other multi-platform-developer: don't let yourself entangle too much in the fanboy wars, try to stay neutral.

That doesn't exclude marketing deals, but don't give them away for free. The money you get for them should be at least worth the discredit on other platforms than the "chosen one".

And make it good. Sony knows their fanbase intertwines with them, might as well save money, the energy for their grade E for effort promotions and just do what's best at what they're really good at.

I'm confused, I thought marketing meant more than just announcing a game on stage at E3 (one of which was just to tell people about a funding campaign). Plus I haven't seen anything that makes SE seem incompetent in regards to XV either (well besides not giving a release window after all this time). Maybe when it gets closer Sony can do something (like a bundle) but right now I feel it's too early.

You're not a professional, you're a nobody. Square-Enix are the professionals.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Eh, Sony has trouble marketing their own games well often enough, don't need to put more third party titles on them as well.

is that why everyone not named EA(barring Star Wars since Disney knows where the market is) is running to Sony to market their games?

Do you have proof that they are running to Sony?

Or do they wait for offers of the big three about bundles / marketing deals / timed exclusives / exclusive DLCs and then decide which seems to be the best choice?

Dude, the actual influence Sony has on the marketing of these big third party titles is branding and showing it at their conferences, they are not making the trailers or anything. And we've talked about the reason for that, the reason is the advantage in market share which makes this cheaper for Sony to do and for 3rd parties it is preferential to align yourself with the leading brand.

Sonys own exclusive titles are sometimes horribly marketed, I don't know how that can even be argued. Where was the LBP3 marketing last year for instance?
