Forums - Gaming - Microsoft: 'If you're backwards compatible, you're really backwards'. Only 5 percent of consumers play past-gen games

What he said is probably true though.

Mattrick isn't on Microsoft anymore, the current people in charge of the "Xbox division" have a much different vision than he did, hence the change on stance.

This is so pointless.

Most of the people are still in the Xbox division were there for the bad decisions with the XBO, and probably agreed with them, including Phil Spencer.  It's not that they have a differenct vision, it's that gamers forced them to change it, and to excuse it Mattrick has become a scapegoat.

My thoughts are that Don Mattrick was an amazing asset to Sony and they have a lot to thank him for in regards to their domination this generation. The PS4 is largely only dominating because of the mistakes this guy made rather than its own successes IMO.

This article just shows you that this guy never should have been allowed to speak publically because he said a lot of stupid things.

Ps4 would have won either way.  They just might not have had the same headstart.

I think your thread title is click-bait. At least you could write "Microsoft in 2013: 'If..."

Shall we also make some threads like "Sony: 'Next-Gen begins when we say it does' without indicating it is an old statement?

Besides that: Microsoft has changed a lot since then: new CEO, new Xbox head, new strategies...

This.

What I find most interesting about this is obviously internal studies were done to come up with the 5% claim. It's not a number pulled from the sky. If that's the case, why is Microsoft investing time and effort into Xbox One BC?

He is right about that... maybe at launch BC could do something but right now it is a feature few gamers will use.

well the number can be pulled from the sky to make an excuse why they didnt had it from the start.

and 5% is still alot more than kinect user---

It allows deals like "buy the new game X in the next months (at full price, before the first price reduction) and get the predecessors Y and Z for free.

People love free stuff, even if they don't play these old included games again. It helps them to justify their buy since it was a bargain with the additional games.

Oh, I'm not a MS fan, but I'm glad that man is gone. I couldn't disagree more with him.

He's right. 5% of previous 360 users will use it on Xbone. Since most people switched over to PS4 from 360. PS Now is the future
