I felt like it had more in common with metroid than zelda. And there was nothing to do in the world. But i did enjoy it. Best final boss in the series in my opinion and the graphics are great.

You know, he is kinda right, for certain things you just have to be there to experience its impact first hand. Not that I actually agree with him on OoT. I was there when it launched (actually I was quite older than you're now), I thought it was a good game, but I wasn't mind blown. Why? I thought overworld was terrible, lot of stuff was tedious, and puzzle focus, while somewhat interesting, was not something I appreciated too much in Zelda game. But then again, I was already huge fan of Tomb Raider at the time, and OoT puzzles didn't seem to me like anything extraordinary. In addition, I was was playing Might and Magic VI around the same time, and while different genre, that game had huge open world with lot of complex dungeons. But OoT was, for lot of people, something that really made huge impact, perhaps even something in the line of Zelda 1, and that cannot be denied. Perhaps Zelda U, if done properly, will be something that will have that impact again, given that it's supposed to be first 3D Zelda with proper open-world. |
I didn't feel the need to bring this up, but I had an NES before I knew what an N64 was. I played Zelda 1 before OoT, and OoT was one of my first 3D games. I may have been young, but I got the same kind of gaming upbringing that most people got, and even at that age, I liked Zelda 1 more. I experienced that impact just fine.
But it doesn't matter, because impact =/= a superior game. That's why I keep saying that important game =/= better game.

Good dungeons, pretty much everything on the ground is interesting and fun. I thought the motion controls were greatly implemented for the most part. The sky gets boring really fast because of how empty it is, this is not helped by the fact that there's no warping mechanic at all in the game forcing you to fly everytime you wanna go somewhere else.
In summary, it's a really good Zelda game but it does come with some irritants. For some it'll ruin the experience completely, for others it's just a mild annoyance.
Signature goes here!
I stopped playing after the first 4 or 5 hours because:
- Too much tutorials and useless press 'A' dialogues with boring characters.
- The motions controls are awful, using the sword is a chore.
- I feel like the potential of flying is totally wasted as you can't really fly as much as you want, they restrict you way too much.

People hates intros, while I love it. Yes, even the one on Twilight Princess. It gaves me the feel that Link had at some point a normal life and how much changed after certain events. For example in Twilight Princess, the farmer pretty boy with a crush with Ilia and loved by the boys transforms into a wolf and had to travel in a shadowy Hyrule full of monsters.

I think Aonuma has not found a good overworld. While the surfwace was good, the sky was the opposite.
And the other overworlds are empty. Not much hope for Zelda HD.

Hate it. Played all of them. This is the only Zelda I quit near the end. Fi and the controls where that bad for me.
I enjoyed it except for the extremly boring and barren hub world. The controls were fine and I don't the complaints, but that's just me.

Yeah, Aounuma seems to have really big problem with designing overworlds. But, at least from what was shown till now, I have the feeling that Zelda U might be different in that regard, I actually liked quite a bit what I saw.
I loved the motion controls. I didn't like the padding and the smallness of everything.
