How exactly is that different from today? No one predicted they would have a second team develop a 3DS version from scratch. It's a pretty ambitious thing to do, especially with a production that will easily require triple digits on both teams.

It looks more like a second team was chosen to develop a PS4 version as that version is well behind the 3DS version indicating 3DS may have always been the intended platform. People were adamant it's only going to be one platform but those who said 3DS said if it comes to console it would be multiplatform due how Japan is with consoles.

So that's why they've said DQ11 was going to be for a home console before the announcement. It was thrown together after the 3DS version.

Does anybody legitimately think that the 3DS and PS4 development times would be the same? Really? Really, really? They've probably been in development the same amount of time, and the 3DS version is just easier. Environments are a little flatter, textures aren't as complex, environments aren't gigantic 3D affairs. It's just simpler.

How exactly does that disprove what I said, oh yeah it doesn't because saying it was going to be on home console never meant it wasn't going to be on 3DS as many of you found out, the PS4 version doesn't even have NPCs and I suspect the battle system isn't complete or active as they avoided them. If both games are meant to release at the same time like they say what they showed indicated otherwise as the PS4 version would have a lot more then what they showed, it suggests the 3DS version was always in development or on the cards and they came to a decision on the console version some time after it.

You do realize that home console development is more resource heavy and takes longer I'm sure. So just because there were no NPCs or battles in the demo (which could be for other reasons btw.) does not necessarily mean the 3DS version has been in development longer. In fact the planned simultaneous release rather suggests the opposite.

That version totally different from PS4 version yeah, but DQ fans will take both since they will offer a very different exclusive experience just like ninokuni, only nintendoboys will stick to 3DS version, real fans will take a PS4 version too

Not exactly a favorable comparison, all things considered.

A late release hurt the PS3 version a lot, also I heard that all the marketing budget was spend on the DS version, those things considered I'd say it selling over a third of the DS version in Japan is actually very much acceptable.

Still DQXI will sell more on 3DS in Japan but more on PS4 in the west (if both release in the west)

Yeah and? The game is meant to release next year around May on the anniversary so going by that it should be much further ahead in development then what was shown so saying it requires more resources means bugger all in that regard as they themselves are saying both versions release the same time. So going by their own words the PS4 version should be much more complete then shown which is why I can see it being delayed.

Yeah, so you can't say the 3DS version has started development earlier, that's what I was saying. And the game is aiming at a 2016 release date, to coincide with the anniversary year, they are not trying to coincide with the exact month.

I can based on what has been shown and what was shown indicates one version is very close to completion for a release in 10 or so months while another version looks well early in development, that indicates one version started well before the other even with the resource differences. The PS4 version looks like it may not make 2017 fr4om what was shown.

I'm really not surprised by the ps4/3ds release.
Ive been saying all along that it made no sense to not release dq11 on 3ds as it's a Japanese series and Japan freaking love handhelds. This is the best of both worlds for all fans. Japan gets its handheld title and Western fans get a console version which I imagine is preferable for most

Oh, I agree with everything you wrote.

I was just saying he probably shouldn't be comparing the two considering he wants it to be a big "exclusive" system seller. There's really never been a situation like the DQXI PS4/3DS release, so it's hard to judge exactly how well each version will do. However, it's no doubt that the very existence of a 3DS version signifcantly hurt the PS4 version's chances of being an enormous system mover along the lines of FFXV.

That is complete bullshit. That's like saying the Division looked like it'd be ready within 10 months of its first demo because that looked very refined, it is easy to create a vertical slice demo that looks good and ready, maybe the 3DS team did that for their demo and the PS4 team didn't. Also you base it all on the fact that there weren't any NPCs and that they didn't go into battle, maybe they just haven't put the NPCs in there because in their development plan this will come at a later point, not like there's any complicated AI behaviour involved with DQ NPCs, most of them just stand around and wait for you to talk to them anyway, so maybe they want to put them in later.

You're trying to interpret way too much into 2 4-5 minute offscreen demos.
