It is for SOME people. For instance, I know a lot of people who game solely on their iPhone. For those people? Owning a console isn't needed.

Well you can do actual work on a PC so of course it is "less" of a luxury than a console or handheld.

All of my bills are payed through the web browser on either my Vita or my PS4, it just depends on when I do it, where I am, or how I am feeling. Phone calls are possible to any land or mobile line via Skpye on the 3G Vita. E-mail is built directly into the Vita OS, but G-mail and Outlook both work on the Vita, PS3, and PS4 browser. For Word Processing, and Spread sheets I use Office Online on the PS4 browser. Is it simpler? Well, probably not for everyone, however, for me, my PS4 and Vita are on 24 hours a day. They are always up to date, and I am always using them for something, so changing activities is quick, and absolutly no hassel. On the other hand, going to another room, to turn on the PC, then wait for Windows, Nvidia, Norton, Steam, EA Access, and a dozen other programs to tell me they need updates, just does not make doing any of these task a worth while effort. I can be done paying my bills, checking e-mail, of working on spread sheets on PS4 before the PC is even ready to use, then its right back to gaming, movies, and TV.

Guys why do you need to bring out definitions. He is clearly talk about the price point only not so much we don't need it in our lives. We don't need anything except for food and water if you want to break it down to bare essentials.

Back on topic. I think price is something that many people consider in a gaming console. It isn't as cool as owning an iphone or galaxy s or a tablet where you are shunned upon by your peers for not having the latest model. Or the pressure to go out drinking on the weekend spending $100s.

Gaming is a niche and until it becomes mainstream essential in social status there will be no pressure to spend $400 on something most of us don't have time to play.

Honestly, I feel like it make more sense that a console is a luxury. A pc is something that you need to have. What people don't realize is that if you spend $200-300 more than you would for an ultra low end crap build PC you'll get a very good gaming machine. So just add a little on, and you get a good gaming system, and generally, cheaper games. Where as with a game console, you spend $300-400 for a thing that just does gaming, and solely so you can buy a couple games that don't come out on anything else.

It is... The huge decline in sales compared to last gen prove it. 


The huge decline is on nintendo's side of it but that's not the case with the other two. As a whole it's fine.
