Well, to take a page from Microsoft's PR manual, it just says "Holiday 2016". It's not specific, so it might as well be Martin Luther King holiday, Labor Day, Independence Day, Mother's Day, 4/20...

Let's speculate and predict:

I say January 1, 2016 - it's 2016, it's a holiday... Only a 45 day delay is awesome, huge win for the gamers!!!

How can you state something is obvious without having any information to back you up? Just sounds like conjecture to stir the pot to me.

Conjecture with some justification. The PR contortions coming from MS and CD/SE previously in their attempt to not mention PS4, or PC, ports while not telling an outright lie by saying the game is fully (or console) exclusive, is very suggestive of something breaking within the last couple of days. Going from smoke and mirrors to a crystal clear multiplat, timed exclusive confirmation doesn;t happen without a pretty significant reeason behind it.

It could possibly be that any gag clause in the exclusivity deal expired this week. But it's an odd sort of week for it to expire. Though maybe not so odd. This week doesn't coincide with any major gaming event, so Sony doesn't have a vehicle to make any sort of song and dance about the fact that becomng multiplat is now confirmed. It is also sufficiently in advance of the Xb one release date that any internet buzz about the fact it's confirmed multiplat now will have died down before any RTR marketing really kicks in. It will only be the gaming forum dwellers that keep rolling out the multiplatness leading up to the Nov release date, and we consitute a very small segment of the gaming public.

Perhaps it's a simple as the fact that the PC port is coming early next year and it does seem to be sensible to announce the PC port 6 months before it happens. And there would be a helluva lot of internet noise if the PC port was announced but confirmation of a PS4 port was not. Especially if there was just more smoke and mirrors around the PS4 sitiuation (which there would have to be). CD and SE would be harassed from alll corners of the internet about a PS4 version, so better to announce both at the same time than one now and the other 6 months later.

Some people will still buy XB one for RoTR. But perhaps a few less than would have while there was still a sliver of a chance that PS4 would not get it eventually. While some people might have been deluded, or mis-directed into thinking PS4 was never going to get this game, I don't think anyone was under any illusion that it would not come to PC. So I think PC folks willing to wait were never really considering getting an Xb one just for this, so I don;t think the PC announcement will have any effect on Xb one prospects.

I think the most logical explanation is that all of this was sorted out a long time ago in a very clear and specific contract. However if that is not the case, the bolded is probably your best bet.

Summer starts June 20th, 2016 and Tombraider releases on November 10th, 2015. That's around 8 months. SE may well be desparate to release it as soon as possible after it gets burried at Christmas by Fallout 4.

Edit: I don't know why I thought it said summer time. Forget everything I just said lol.

Um. It makes sense for them to launch during Holiday's 2016. If they launched during the spring they would be going up against UC4. I doubt they are.allowed to release it during the winter (within 2 months of XB1 release). So it come down to.a.summer or fall release. They obviously see the fall being more profitable.

You act like its Sony's choice haha.  Whats it going to take, 4 days to beat Uncharted?

No.

I am acting like Square has an agreement with MS for timed exclusive. Once that "time" is over they can release it whenever they want.

Its a simple concept really. Lets use movies for an example, Lets say Tomb Raider = Divergent, and UC4= The Hunger Games. The movies target pretty much the same audience but one is much bigger than the other. The makers of Divergent would be idiots to launch the same month as The Hunger Game, in fact they would want to launch a completely different time of year to ensure it is not overshadowed. (Which is why Divergent launch almost 6 months away from the Hunger games).

Square would be idiots to launch the game up against UC4. I honestly think this is why they struck a deal in the 1st place with MS. They figured it would get more attention as a console exclusive. They could at least get more sales (and MS money) on the XB1, and then launch TR on the PS4 not up against UC4. This backfired on them big time when UC4 was delayed. There only options were to launch it near UC4 (and get the same result they tried to avoid in the Holidays) or just push it into the Holiday release lineup for 2016 and hopefully give PS4 owners a compelling reason to buy the year old game. (lower price + extra content should help it sell at least respectably)

A game with extra content is not a remake. The game will only have all the DLC released, and maybe a little bonus content, but it's not enough to call it remake like you said, it is still  a port

It probably have more visual upgrades. I am not talking about any rez bump or fps bump. They will probably redo the textures to make the game look better or something of that sort. Phil Spencer said he won't invest into games on rival platform, so square enix is making the game themselves and redoing things or perhaps build it on a newer engine and improve textures. This happend before.

You guys will know who will eat crow after a year. lol! xD

It was obviously not a part of the deal to announce the PS4 version months before One release, now some will obviously wait instead of buying a console for one game, and even PC version, before X1 release, is that a mistake from Square Enix or ... ?

What do you think ?

Very much doubt it. Most people were saying that exclusivity will only last 3-6 months. MS can now come out and say 'actually, it's a whole year'. I have already seen a few of the MS PR guys retweet the tweet from SE about this so it's hardly something they want to hide/are upset about.

XBL: NathObeaN | PSN: NathObeaN | Steam: NathObeaN

Very strange for them to announce the PC and PS4 versions prior to the Xbox1 versions release... Way to dampen the hype considering many outside the video game forums were utterly convinced it was xbox full exclusive. I'll get it on PS4 providing it is not a bare-bones edition and it is a good game.

I think what happened is obvious. It makes sense for Square to clarify the ambiguous platform/release dates info as this helps get rid of PS4 hold outs.

Like any timed multiplat, Square chose this deal because they figured that combined the exclusivity, extra Microsoft marketing, extra cash, and being held up to Uncharted in the press, would all help sales/profits.

Now that Uncharted has moved part of that plan doesn't work; as it can't be compared against a game that isn't releasing against it. Combined with what is shaping up to be a really busy holiday season (they are launching same day as Fall Out 4!), and they are probably afraid of being lost in the shuffle. I would bewilling to bet the game isn't trending so well and/or has low early buzz/pre-orders, thus the need to revise the messaging plan.

On a personal note; I'll prob buy it for my X1 this fall and then again on PS4 if it ends up the superior version and the price is right.
