I haven't tried it out yet, but what JRPG would you say it is close to in battle system?

It's pretty similar to any of the early Final Fantasy games with some timed actions added in for flare. It's not a bad system. It's just not particularly engaging after playing other games over the past 5-7 years.

As a relative newbie to JRPG's, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed the battle system.  Guess it depends on how often you've seen it before.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Around the Network

now 11 hours in and thankfully, the game is picking up again. I'll write more when I finish the second disc. I'm starting to enjoy the game a lot more now.

And how much you enjoy basic FF combat. What I really have liked so far with LO has been the Boss battles, they done a good job of requiring a bit of strategy rather than simply level grind for a while, fight boss, wait until summoner powers up to Nights of the Round and trample opponent.

That said, a part of me missed all the 'end-of-the-world' OMFG attacks...

Unrealistic, yes (FFVII, when Barret suddenly has a freaking SATELLITE in outer space shooting baddies for him!? WHAT?!), but fun. And quite possibly they could have added a plot thingie for the Immortals at least, to have these 'super attacks'. I would have loved to see Kaim doing all the fight moves he did in the opening cinema again in normal battles...
