It's pretty similar to any of the early Final Fantasy games with some timed actions added in for flare. It's not a bad system. It's just not particularly engaging after playing other games over the past 5-7 years.

As a relative newbie to JRPG's, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed the battle system. Guess it depends on how often you've seen it before.

And how much you enjoy basic FF combat. What I really have liked so far with LO has been the Boss battles, they done a good job of requiring a bit of strategy rather than simply level grind for a while, fight boss, wait until summoner powers up to Nights of the Round and trample opponent.
