This game is gorgeous. I bought it last night and played about two hours into it before literally passing out in the middle of exploring - controller still in hand. It starts slow but I'm pretty used to that in JRPG games. The story is just starting to ramp up now and I'm eagerly awaiting hour six, which I hear is when the game really kicks into overdrive.

If I put aside my anti-JPRG skepticism, I think I'll really enjoy the game. So far the combat is intriguing, though I have to admit that I preferred Blue Dragon's timer/powerup combat. I thought it was a cool twist on the turn-based genre that led to some very complex battles later in the game (though the game was still too easy).

I have to mention that I absolutely love the art style. Compared to most JRPG leads - most of which look like people you would see walking out of a concert in West Hollywood on a Saturday night -  Kaim is the genre's Marcus Fenix in comparison. He's not whiny, he's got some serious fuckin' attitude to him, and so far, he hasn't annoyed me once. Compared to a Final Fantasy game where I generally want to punch the main character in the face by the time the opening credits have finished, this is a vast improvement.

Kudos to Uematsu again - he has delivered another brilliant soundtrack that sounds familiar to JRPG fans but is different enough to remind you that it's a new game.

Oh come on, surely you enjoyed FFX, where Tidus's steady stream of "I hate you daddy" was central to the course of the dialog after every 3 scenes!

Lost Odyssey is great :D I really enjoyed the game on all fronts... enjoy your odyssey!

Keep up the good word of mouth! Glad you liked it rocketpig.

It is a good game, I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm suprised how positive user reviews have been for this game when compared to the press reviews. I know that the press reviews had the load time problems, but my friend describes it as being the best RPG he has ever played. I will certainly buy this game when I (probably) get a 360 this summer

Nice review, although I must say that people sound like total dicks when they say the word "JRPG" at every opportunity.

Bleh. I still need to pick up LO. Seems like I will be the last one to get on the train.

But it's always comforting to see that both user reviews and sales prove that people do enjoy the game - Lost Odyssey is going to sell more units than the entire JRPG lineup (ES, EM, BD) combined soon, it seems.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I have one gripe with the game so far (i'm 20 hours in). The character designs (besides Kaim) are pretty damn stragne looking. Each woman character has monster knockers, and one specific female character has a vainy giant chest LOL!!!! The characters are crazy (mostly), but they are still lovable which is good.

Just kiss the tip.

Kaim is pretty much a head's up (and more) on any and all JRPG main characters up to this generation. For one thing, he's not a virgin - which you laugh, that it doesn't make a difference, but my gawd it actually DOES!

That one victory phrase just throws him off a lot - "Like taking candy from a baby"?!

I just wish the guy emotes more. Those few scenes of his face breaking out into something other than a scowl, indifference, or pain, are really really great (forgive me, I'm a fangirl ^___^). Really, they're NOTHING like Squall's creepifying smile at the end of FFVIII >_<!!

My one, real, true gripe with the game (btw, completed for about 2-3 weeks now. Asian-English version.), is that The Gooch gimps on one of the fundamentals of old-school JRPGing...the romance aspect. Kaim's is...sorta meh...

The character designs are great, especially if you consider the concept artwork for the characters which look even better
