Forums - Gaming - Who should Capcom give Monster Hunter to next gen?

I think a smart move would be for Capcom to up the Monster Hunter production values and make an attempt to push the game in the west. A Vita/PS4 deal could do that, especially if part of the deal is for Sony to advertise heavily. There is real potential there.

However, we are talking about Capcom, a company not exactly known for making forward-thinking decisions.

Whoever has most popular handheld in Japan will get it...if that means something like phone with pop-up stick (a la Apple's patent), then probably that.

They had forward thinking when they went with 3DS over Vita; everybody thought Vita would outsell 3DS back in the day, but Capcom went with Nintendo anyways. And its quite apparent that MH does best on HH in Japan, thats the games major market. Trying to push the franchise in the West with Vita and PS4 would neglect the biggest market the games have. Thus, it would be really really stupid.

But if Capcom somehow could go multiplat... now, THAT might be a great idea!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

What you suggest makes little financial sense.

MH4U is the best selling MH game in the West anyway (LTD).

Either exclusively Playstation, or both Playstation and Nintendo. The latter would be the better choice for Capcom, as it would make them a shit ton of money overall, selling one of their biggest franchises on multiple consoles.

Well maybe if it had Monster Hunter it would have...

Is that very plausable though? One single game would be enough to turn the fortune around for the Vita? I think not, it took the combination of two games to turn the 3DS around - both selling way better than any MH game

Nintendo, where it belongs.

It's not implausible. The 3DS sold more, but a part of that is because it had Monster Hunter. If that was on Vita instead then the Vita would definitely have sold more and the 3DS less. That alone may not have made a huge difference by itself but it may well have resulted in other games that were 3DS exclusive appearing on Vita as well.

Regardless, the point is that Capcom never just got lucky or anything that they released it on the better selling console, they are part of the reason it was the higher selling console in the first place.

I agree that the Vita would have sold better, but it would never have outsold the 3DS. And having MH as an exclusive wouldnt have improved the sales in the West all that much. All in all, Capcom made the right decision

I think Monster Hunter is a big enough game that being multiplat is in its best interests. Why limit your pool of potential customers for no reason?

Although if they absolutely have to go exclusive for some reason then I'd love to see it go Xbox exclusive, just for the lolz

the odds are there is a quiet exclusivity agreement currently that Nintendo has pushed for with Monster Hunter- otherwise there is no explanation for the lack of existence of a Monster Hunter game for the PS4 in development

It was definitely rumored that Nintendo stole MH away from Sony and signed a 3 year exclusivity deal, but that deal supposedly ended in 2014. If Capcom were going to make a mainline MH game on PS4 or otherwise then it would be in development by now. The lack of MH on PS4/WiiU is probably because of Capcom's financial situation. If anything, MH will probably not leave the 3DS unless Sony/Nintendo funds the game.

Financially? 3DS successor.

Now if we are talking about the game itself, it would be much better on the PS4, no more PS2 graphics, better controls, higher frame rate, etc. But that will never happen unless the PS4 starts selling Wii levels in japan thanks to FFXV, Persona 5 and Dragon Quest Heroes 2.
