Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fire Emblem Fates over sexualization is really off putting imo (pics)

(Back on my computer ! ^^)

Two images for the sake of comparison.

The battle mage in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn :

And the battle mage in Fire Emblem Fates :

Sexualization or not, the first design is way more interesting IMO...

The Fire Emblem series has always had "hot chicks".  The difference is now their tits are popping out of their completely-ill-suited-for-combat outfits.

And? It's ill-suited-for-combat but that's not uncommon in RPG's. Tifa spent the whole game using shorts and that tight shirt. And with those she was able to stand a big bang attack from sephiroth.

Another example, Tales of Vesperia. I can use an armor made out of bath bubbles and have more defense than a made-out-of-steel armor.

It doesn't matter,  it's meant to be ridiculous.

And just to get this out of the way, I didn't like Fire Emblem Awakening, but not because of the "oversexualized" characters or "ill-suited-for-combat" armors. I didn't like it because the my unit character is completely broken. See, my complaint is about the gameplay elements, while all you guys do is complain about tits.

That's where the issue lies.  There are ways to having sexy characters without them having their cleavage popping over their chins.

As for gameplay, clearly they've taken fan complains into account as Fates has a ton of changes, not to mention the devs saying that they hear the fans in the Fates Iwata Asks.  Meanwhile, there's more fan service in this game than Awakening by 100%.

Your issues have been addressed, mine are getting worse.  Any long time fan of the sereis can see that the character designs are night and day.

It's fanservice, and the main part you are mentioning is an optional feature that you do not even need to play to complete the game.

There are the physics in the cutscenes so since I haven't played it either, there could be something else, but will just have to see

I don't care really. In it's core it's a SRPG and I'm gonna buy it because of that, everything else is just a bonus. I have only played FE: A and I can agree that Tharja is light dressed but there's nothing wrong with character variation. The ancient egyptians were light dressed in battle btw. And I don't think Olivia is oversexualized because I didn't get that vibe from her.

Now on to Fates. The only characters I find to be oversexualized are two girls in Nohr. Don't remember their names but one of them (with bikini armor) have her hands on her boobs and the other one with black armor and bouncy melons.

I think his real problem is that the series has become mainstream and thus making the story not as good or deep. If that's the case then I can understand you.

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

As I said, I didn't like FE Awakening because of the "my unit"  but I also forgot to mention other things. The fact that you can grind levels in the map, the support system, all these elements are what make FE Awakening lesser than the originals in my opinion.

So my issues haven't been addressed. And I still insist, I complain about game design choices while you still complain about the character designs. Is it really that important? Can't you mention anything else than that?  Are character designs that important to you? I guess I'm playing games for the wrong reason then!

Excellent example. It's pretty clear that the recent one is virtually naked.

It doesn't make the game more interested or more suitable for adults, so what's the added value? If I want to watch softcore porn, I turn on softcore porn. I don't need it in my games thanks.

Also, Quistis is not over-sexualized unless you were born in the 30s.

I have a hunch that the target market for FE is not adults. I think it's more on the "horny teenagers" side. Still, i agree that the first model is way more interesting.

Quistis is not over-sexualized but it counts as a hot chick.

I agree with you on many of the aspects of FE:A; I don't like the grinding either.  What was your issue with the support system?  It seemed mostly the same, albit with each character having anime personalities.  While your issues might not have been adressed, they are actually changing SOME gameplay elements.

Now to avoid any further miscommunication, I enjoyed Awakening because gameplay was it felt like FE.  I had a good time and I'm sure I will with Fates as well.  Despite how I feel about the design, I still enjoy the game.

However ...

This is too much.  Too, fucking, much.

It's not affecting me to the point where I won't enjoy Fates, you're right.  But this is exsessive and it's very sad to see a series which had so many interesting character designs be warped into this anime fap-fest.  I absolutely hate when people call Fire Emblem a "waifu simulator" and this shit?  It's making it beyond awful to be a FE fan.

WRPGs don't have sexualized female characters? Did you not play The Witcher, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age?

I'm not denying that part, but a lot of them don't.

And like I said the point of this thread isn't to call out sexualization in RPGs, I'm just calling it out in this particular RPG which went 20 years without having to resort to these sleezy tactics.

Please name just a single western RPG that does not feature oversexualized female characters. Just one.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm not complaining and the creators can do whatever they want.

If people don't like this then just ignore it/don't buy it/make your own dam game.

So much defending/excusing going on in this thread. Can't you guys just admit that this is a step in the wrong direction even if you think the rest of the game could be great?
