Not happening unless this thing is dirt cheap, which doesn't solve third party problems. Will they ever learn?
If it is a handheld that can play cell phone games and also stream games on the TV I think they have a chance.
If they were going to low cost route, I'd probably suggest a $169.99 or $179.99 price point allows for considerably more leeway with the hardware and still allows it to be cheap.
The only way this can happen is if it's a fusion, because that will attract both the console and handheld crowds.
Pure Insanity!
The ps4 may end up with one of the best follow up years in gaming. It is no surprise that the ps4 will have a ton of support this holiday, but with the release of Uncharted 4 (assuming it stays on track to do as well as the last of us), sony will pretty much dominate the market, with the xone taking whatever's left.
If the rumors are true and Nintendo releases a not as powerful console, unless they give a mindblowing launch (waaay greater than the ps4 and the wii) or a ridiculously impressive gimmick (highly doubtful), they will be in for a huge shock.
This is worse than when they predicted to sell 9 million wii u's in one year, and barely managed 3 million
I think Digitimes is wrong on this, they may have a decent source on Nintendo approaching supply makers, but I don't think they know specifics, that's probably them being fed rumors.
Still in the *first* 12 calendar months (which actually encompasses most of the first two holiday seasons), the 3DS did ship about 15 million and the Wii U was about 4.5 million.
Which is right around 20 million. So if NX is meant to replace both product lines, then it's not that far fetched.

Not even that. The fusion has a great chance for success, but no way will it have a bigger launch than both the ps4 and wii. The ps4 rode in off the shoulders of an amazing comeback by the ps3, and the wii presented a gimmick and critical hit (wii sports) during the RROD era for xbox 360 and the hugely overpriced blue ray player era for the ps3

Wii U: 4 million
3DS: 16 million
First year. And that's with Wii U being a flop and 3DS having a slow start. Of course, this also depends on how expensive the NX is, what kind of support it gets, what it launches with and how it's marketed.

Actually, I'm pretty sure we've had this exact same rumor just with a source from another website quoting Digitimes. Why is this not considered a duplicate and why does it have so many posts? Sometimes I truly do not understand VGC.
Edit: Also, why are people arguing with Lawlight...?
