Forums - Gaming - What's The Best Pokemon Game To Start With?

Personally I would start with X/Y or ORAS, because those are the more recent ones and both are IMO, pretty good.

After that, you can choose weather you want to get earlier games. If you want to try out B2W2, try out Black and White first due to references and story. (B2W2 is regarded to have the best story in the series)

Other than that, you can choose Platinum and etc before the first installments (Diamond and Pearl) and etc.

Dang it. I think everyone posting their opinions forgot only yours matter.

I don't know how people forgot that, but thanks for making it clear.

On that note, I'd like to fix some wrong notions talked about last page: someone said X/Y are the worst Pokémon games ever made, and OR/AS are the best. Please keep in mind that it's actually the other way around.

Also, while maybe not the best games to start the franchise with (not saying they're bad either, all Pokémon games are quite novice-friendly), you have to eventually try out the B/W and B2/W2 games. I think those are a must. They were very memorable games with a really solid story when compared to previous Pokémon titles. I wasn't ever too fond of Pokémon's shift in storytelling from gen 3 onwards when they started to try to be all epic and stuff while still retaining the old formula - it always felt weird and out of place. However, for gen 5 and gen 5 only, they changed it up and made it work.

That said, I still liked the story in X/Y quite a bit.

You know that I just skimmed your post and am not listening to you right? Haha

FireRed/LeafGreen

one and done

I recommend ORAS or FireRed/LeafGreen. The Gameboy ones aged horribly

good summary Hiku. i was planning to play again Pokemon after I've played Yellow. 95% completion though, but can't find the remaining pokemons back then.

so i may start with the new ones X/Y or ORAS.

you need a friend to trade in yellow.  and im not sure if you can get mew in yellow.

Pokemon Yellow. You have pikachu from the start and follows you around.

I disagree. Red/Blue/Yellow yes, but I didn't think Gold/Silver/Crystal aged bad at all. In fact I would even say they've aged better than the DS ones.

I own both Red and Gold and I see no difference in how the Gen 2 games aged better than Gen 1. Same battle system, same hud, same overworld, same items.

Any of the main games is good to start really.

Start with the GBA games like Ruby, Sapphire Emerald or the remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen
