Forums - Nintendo - Will the next CEO of Nintendo make powerful consoles to their fullest? Since Iwata has passed away?

This. Pretty much what I replied on the other thread when someone suggested Sakurai. I don't think he would really want to take this role.

I'm not so sure. I don't think anyone would have considered Iwata for president before it happened. I'm not saying he does want it, but I just not so sure he would flat out reject it either. He clearly has a lot of love and respect for Nintendo, their franchises, their consoles, and their leader, Iwata. That all came through in his products. And I think his relationship with Iwata is the biggest thing going for him. And, like I said, he is clearly getting tired of making Smash Bros games. Considering his condition, it might be in his best intrest to stop creating games so directly at all. This would allow him to continue making important leadership decisions at Nintendo without suffering from designing games.

I don't think anything significant will change in short term. If NX is hybrid that launches in 2016, then perhaps potential 9th gen home console in 2018/9 will be different and actually compete for same audience as MSony's next-gen offerings.

And please people, stop abusing word fun, what is fun for me might not be fun for you and vice versa.

I think 2018/2019 would be too early for next console after NX, for me around 2020 looks more likely.

I don't know - if NX is indeed hybrid, it's more of a handheld than home console. If they're to launch something that will target mainstream crowd, nothing stops them to launch home console around the same time or slightly earlier than MSony (pretty much why I wrote 18/19, instead of 19/20).

Also I think a fair few people might argue that the Dreamcast had better graphics than the GCN simply because of Shenmue, that game still looks great to this day especially through VGA...

Resi4 and Metroid Prime both looked way better than Shenmue.

Shenmue does look good, but I don't think that means it better graphics. Gamecube simply had better specs and could have handled it. Besides it had many great looking games in its own right. RE 4  looked incredible and I think F Zero GX was quite the achievent at that time. A lot of Nintendo's first party games looked great as well, and also still look good today such as the Prime games. Remember GC also looked better when played through component cable.

Xbox did easily beat all though.

If is hybrid is hybrid not more handheld or home console, in same time would be handheld and home console, it would have games that are in same time handheld and home console like.

People really need to let go of this notion that "Yeah, Nintendo can totally keep up with the power race" when it comes to consoles. Not these days, they can't. Not unless you want a Nintendo system that costs $400-$500. I know I don't want to pay that, which is one of several reasons I don't have a PS4 yet also.

Well, they could've easily made Super Wii for $350 that is somewhat weaker, yet in the in the same ballpark as XBO, if they hadn't designed it with Gamepad in mind.

I honestly doubt that it would've sold less than WiiU, had less 3rd party support than WiiU and had worse library than WiiU...quite the opposite, IMO.

Ah but what if a different vision could've given you MORE fun?

As long as their philosophy and the way they make games remains intact, I suppose more powerful hardware wouldn't change that.

No I mean you only had the opportunity to have fun with Iwata so of course you'll put the fun on him.  What if, in an alternate universe where he wasn't CEO your alternate reality self loved the games even more that came from Nintendo.  Just saying we have no idea how good or bad he actually was unless we put him in context.

I am Iron Man

The guy who determines the power of Nintendo's consoles is still alive, Genyo Takeda.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

make a console that third party will make games for it ! , he must ask them , innovating will not mean success
