Mine would/will be delighted, considering they are fans of Zelda/Mario/Kirby - I'm still waiting for price cut/Zelda for that, given that they are still having a blast on Wii with lot of other titles (funny enough, there's a huge library of good 3rd party titles on Wii for kids, for console that was not supported by 3rd parties).

If you're going to spend the money, why risk the possible disappointment though? As for my ( Hypothetical ) kid, I think he would be really upset since his ( Hypothetical ) friends would probably all have a PS4/Xbox One.

I bought a PS4 and Wii U for me. The kids can enjoy it after chores are done, and it they behave. As it should be.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

The real question is, which one do they prefer?

It's up in the air. They have skylanders on PS4 and Mario Party and Smash Bros. It comes down to whatever system has the hdmi cable in it.

My kids don't know much about the Console Wars. Only that we won't have an Xbox in the house. :) lol

If I had a kid I wouldn't buy them their own system. Just like I wouldn't buy them their first car either.
If I had only one kid, then it may appear that I bought them a console, but it would be everyone's console, not theirs. If I had more than one kid it would be the family console. If they wanted their own console, they would have to buy it, and it would be placed in a public place in the house. Why? So they wouldn't disappear into the depths of the house for hours on end and become a hermit.
I'm all for the kid saving up and buying their own console, so it is truly theirs, and they feel more of a responsibility towards it. That's just the way I am; probably because it's how I grew up.
Anyhow I went off on a tangent but if I bought the family a Wii U I think they would quite like it yes. It would allow for a lot of family game time, due to the couch co-op and group-friendly games. Hooray for social gaming!

I don't have any kids, but when i was a kid, my parents bought my a N64/GC over the PS1/PS2, and the current situation kinda compares to those times, and i was perfectly happy with those. Also, I personally have both a PS4 and Wii U and I have barely touched my PS4, while I've used my Wii U a lot and have been generally really happy about it. So if my kids turn out like me, they definitely wouldn't be upset with the Wii U.

Don't have kids but if someone in my family or a friend buy me a Wii U instead of a PS4 I would be unhappy.
If I already own a PS4 and somebody buy me a Wii U then I would be happy.

I dont have kids, but if i would they would be glad, because i would raise them in a nintendo envoirment :)

Don't have kids but if I bought them a Wii U, they'd probably be unhappy because all their friends would have PS4's.
