Forums - Gaming - Where did this stupid "trend" come from? Game trailer reaction videos?

I think I'm getting old, I can not for the life of me understand some of the ideas people come up with to make videos about. Commentated Let's Plays I've come to terms with, Vines are utterly stupid but you at least get a chuckle out of them once in a while, but this new thing (and I'm assuming it's new because I've seen non of that one year ago) of people filming themselves watching trailers for the first time really takes the stupidity cake. Now I get it for something like the FF VII Remake, because people had seriously crazy reactions to that but when it's stuff like this then why make a damn video about it? Just to show you guys that I'm not making this up I'll link some youtube search results:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=rise+of+the+tomb+raider+e3+trailer+reaction

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=horizon+zero+dawn+e3+trailer+reaction

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=uncharted+4+e3+trailer+reaction

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=gears+4+trailer+reaction

Now fortunately I don't think anyone has gotten really big thanks to this stuff yet cause once that happens I think I'll have to officially declare myself to old for the internet.

As horrendous as the link is, I recommend trying to get through it all, and not losing your faith in humanity in the meantime.

Attention, I guess?

I once saw a reactuon video get more than half a million views, lol.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Probably a result of those "react" videos by the FineBros. They get a bunch of kids, teens, old people, etc, to react to things like games, movies, music videos, tech, etc.

Actually can be quite entertaining, particularly the "elders" reacting to videogames and the like.

Well let's check that out...nope nope nope, what in the devil is wrong with some people?

I believe this trend comes from people doing that with movie trailers. I mean, who hasn't seen the video of that woman reacting to the 50 shades of grey trailer?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3jJN8CeqxY

Now it's the same with game trailers.

I hope this won't last long.

Edit: I see that mysteryman posted another reaction video of that woman. So I guess that besides being a trend, it's also a way for some people to get the attention they are looking for.

They came from the same idea as Let's Plays and Let's Whatchs.

But those are edited to get entertaining results and they are being asked questions to make it more worthwile as well, who in the world wants to watch an unedited video of some dude in his bedroom watching a trailer while unenthusiastically "reacting" to it?

It's been a thing for a few years already.... anyway if you don't like them just dont' watch them, no need to hope they cease to exist. :P
