Forums - Sony Discussion - Its Time. Sony will put GEN 7 out of its misery this fall.

PS3's are sold at a profit and probably make more money per unit sold then each PS4.

Eh, PS3 needs to be (and will be) supported for quite a while yet

Do we have clear information showing this? Just Curious

No. But the PS3 came out almost 9 years ago, so surely the parts required to manufacture a PS3 would be much cheaper now then they used to be.

Yes, they will be cheaper but that does not mean the PS3 is selling at a pretty good profit.

Maybe... but it's been at the same price for a few years now.

And if it isn't making a nice profit now (after all these years with no price cuts), then the engineers that made the PS3 were terrible.

It kinda does not work that way..... Eventually you cut as much fat as possible and the price can not go any lower. Under that line of thinking you should be able to produce a SNES for 5$ now

This proves that Sony is not just working for profit. The general mindset needs a change. The reason why PS3's botched launch help it surpass 360's sales in the long run is that there was a huge library that kept growing as PSN evolved through various stages no matter whatever hiccups it had to go through. PS+ was never forced. I believe PS3 is here to stay for long and get the deserved lifetime sales.

The problem is: the prices of many components won't go down any further after a few years, some components get even more expensive when they leave mass production.

For example DDR2-RAM:

The PS3 will probably have a problem with rising Cell-CPU-prices due to production decreases of that chip. With a modular system like PCs you can replace such components with newer + faster components which profit from the mass production (buying a DDR3-board with DDR3-RAM instead of DDR2), but it's not so easy for home consoles... some components can't be replaced without losing compatibility.

It just shows how many people just read the subject.

It only shows that you don't know or don't care about the forum rules: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=201838&page=1#17

"Clear, Concise, and On Point thread titles

Your title is one of the most important pieces to your thread as a portal to discussion. For potential commenters and posters, the title is the first thing they see. Your title begins the process of forming ideas and opinions and presenting them in the thread. So when your title isn't accurately framing the topic in your OP, or you add some sort of volatile or baiting opinion to "spruce up" your title, you're only sabotaging your own thread and how discussion follows. So if a moderator does come in and edit a thread title (or even some of the content), we're only doing so to make sure that your entire thread has cohesiveness and accuracy which allows the discussion to be the best that it can be."

It is clear and consise if you read the OP.

If you read the entire post (not very long) there is no reason you should come to the wrong conclusion.

Simple things. For one I said GEN 7 not the PS3 in OP, that alone should lead one to believe what I am saying is more than just about hardware. Its about getting people off the old consoles and onto the PS4. Big difference.

Gen 7 is slowing dying, thus Sony can put it out of its misery by getting people still waiting to upgrade a good reason to.

I cant help it you read into it incorrectly but what the subject states is exactly what I mean.
