Forums - Gaming - When will Microsoft leave the console business?

Well considering the next Xbox will likely be "Xbox 10" and probably be build completely on Windows 10 basically a PC for living rooms similar to a steam machine I guess and they will bring the entire PC library to the console. Also allowing development for console and PC without porting them between. Is that leaving the console business or moving forward with console development?

Hell why don't they just buy steam and re-brand it Xbox? Best of both :)

When M$ accidentally launches Skynet. That would also make it so that no other consoles will launch. The death of M$ will happen when Skynet is born. Therefore the death of M$ means the death of civilization as we know it.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Thursday next week.

Hmm, pie.

Because Nintendo's main benefactor on home consoles is its first party software which it could double/triple on a more successful platform/multiple platform

Microsoft means to succeed is through third party license fee's, XBL subs, apps etc which require a hardware platform (Xbox). The Xbox as a platform is bigger then just gaming for them as well. They've poured billions into it and it wouldn't make sense to quit it until they've made a suitable return or are continually loosing tons of money with no hope of profit

Nintendo however has already reaped the reward of their console brand and its now on decline, with software being their main profit centre why not cut the burden of hardware?

Regarding the actual question, if Xbox 10 fails to grow the userbase from what X1 is achieving, I think that will be Microsofts last physical console. But then again, if its sustainable, then they have no reason to drop it. they'll likely reduce it to a windows 10 streaming or media box

I hope they don't, in fact I hope more companies enter the console market in some shape or form then exit.

Why would you want more to come in just to then exit later?

Lol I think he means than exit :P

They will leave when the company sees no reason to stay in.

not anytime soon; MS is seeming to integrate Xbox with their PC/windows brands so the Xbox gaming division might merge one day to into something like steam

This is there last generation. They will continue making games but they will be for PC.

They abandon of Nokia has already began. Honest i see no future with Microsoft with the XBOX brand. Forget not for 10 Years Microsoft was the King in IT-market, today they became more and more weaker. They can not afford to give Money to a decreasen ship.
