This is about taking risks, not being the first.

Being first inherently means risk.

A lot of things mean risk.

Exactly, like being first.

What does that have to do with the things I mentioned?  They were all still risky at the time.

Following a flop is risky.

Come on man some of the risks you mentioned were taken beforehand. That's the real risk

Like first to do hard drive or first with the eye toy?

Yet PS3 architecture wasn't a real risk....

What are you talking about?

Not really bad news for me as a consumer.

I hope MS becomes a company with a laser focus on fewer goals.

A better Windows means a better life for me.

Well I suppose if you can see past the sloppy investment that cost over 10k jobs then its okay to shrug your shoulders and wait for a Windows patch. Its just too bad that they couldn't focus that laser on saving jobs.

Come on, hard drive and eye toy weren't risks. They were accessories which were optional to buy. If the consoles would had relied on it, sure. But this is a risk as saying the Dreamcast Fishing Controller was a risk.

Disc (PSX) - using a cheaper format for their console was not taking a risk.
  Still a risk, unproven medium
First to really focus on 3D (Sega Saturn changed for that reason).  Ok you are just pulling stuff out of the air with that one
This is a well known fact
First to have a hard drive - Nope not Sony, that would be the Xbox
  PS2 was before the Xbox
Eye Toy (first motion controls in consoles).  Yes, EyeToy is a good one but then again where is it now
  It was a RISK
PS3 Hardware (Cell, Bluray, etc).  Cell I would say no but Bluray was definitely a risk because it jacked up the price of the console and almost let Nintendo and MS run away with that gen.  Still, it was more arrogance then risk as Sony attitude at the time was as if they could do not wrong.

Your cell argument goes against your other arguments

Sony has not taken any more risk then any of their competitors.  After the success of the PS1 and 2 they pretty much thought they could do anything and gamers would just come along no matter how much it cost.  They got a rude awakening with the PS3 and the PS4 is the result.

Meanwhile, Morpheus is a lot of fun.

Yeah, I am sure Hololens is fun as well.  What is your point?
