Forums - Nintendo - Will The Next Zelda Remake Release In 2017?

I don't think so. They're going to have to start slowing down or else the remasters will catch up with the new games. A new Zelda every five years logically should mean a remaster every five years.

Also remember that Nintendo doesn't like to be predictable. The moment we start expecting more remasters is the moment they take a whole new direction.

I hope not. I'm tired of Aonuma's lazyness and Nintendo mismanagement.

I wouldn't venture to say laziness, but these re-makes are definitely just filler.

I don't see much particular use for remaking any of the 2D games, there's just not much you could do. For the more advanced ones like A Link to the Past, the sprite-art is already sharp and clear enough and there doesn't really need to be anything added to the game that couldn't be done before. Upping the resolution to 1080p doesn't make much difference either for a 2D game. I also don't really feel the need to see the game in ALBW style if that's all it does. The original LoZ is even harder, funny enough there actually is a lot they could do about that game, like story progression and graphics, but then there's so much to do that they might as well just make a new game altogether.

And this is why we have yet to see a remake of a 2D Zelda game. A Link to the Past did get a port with some minor alterations and with the Four Swards multiplayer game, but it was just that. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing a similar approch they took when making Metroid: Zero Mission. That game was so short because modernizing the original Metroid made it easier and as a result, they had to add additional content in order to expand the game's length. If Nintendo were to remake a 2D Zelda game, it would be more than just prittier graphics.

Twilight Princess was the only mainline Zelda I felt was lacking. It was much less fun than any of the others, as well as the ugliest and least memorable.

Well Eiji Aonuma said he wanted to make a Zelda aimed at the Western audience because of semi-disappointing Wind Waker sales. We wanted Ocarina of Time 2.0 and that's pretty much what we got. Fans ate it up because it's one of the best selling Zelda games in the series.

Isn't windwaker the most successful with the highest ratio of console owners (gamecube) buying the game. Obviously the small user base limited it's overall sales but it still sold brilliantly well despite of this. Personally its my favourite Zelda I absolutely love the art style and feel of the game. In contrast I gave up on Twilight princess fairly early as it looked awful and it put me off.

Ironically, it is. Iy sold somwhere around the 4 million range on a console that only managed to reach 21 million. Not to mention, it was release at one of the worst periods of the GameCube's life. But nonetheless, Nintendo was initially disappointed by the game's performance. Maybe they were hpoing it would sell like Ocarina of Time. Or maybe they were hoping Wind Waker would push GameCube sales. It's still a fact that Twilight Princess was a direct response to Wind Waker's sales and criticism from the idiotic fans who expressed disappointment over the artstyle. I think it's one of the few times Nintendo actually listened to the fans....and Twilight Princess was the result.
