Or could it mean they are going to sell the device through their own (online) store? Especially Wii-U hasn't hade great support by retailers and it's mostly their own games that sell their systems anyway.

If they skip retailers however it would mean they are probably going digital only.

Not going to happen. Doing that is like killing the device since launch. They need to be at most retailers as they can, like Wii and DS.

WTF does Nintendo like solution mean?

I think It means exactly that. Nintendo, unlike other companies have a strong culture, and this "solution" will reflects that. In other words, dont expect a third PC-like console. It's going to be unique (weird). Can't say Im sober.

Quite cryptic but I'm curious to see what they mean when they unveil it!

So maybe NX is not a console but just a digital platform then? How else can they offer through a Nintendo like solution. If it's a console that is being sold to retailers then what is there to offer through a Nintendo solution?

"I have the impression that the launches of the two systems, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, were consecutive failures. Nintendo 3DS seemed to recover after the hardware markdown and the availability of a wide selection of third-party software. As for Wii U, the situation does not look so good. I have the same concern for the launch of the new NX. What measures are you taking to avoid the same mistakes? Also, please comment on your collaborative relationships with third parties from whom you currently lack support."

This is the question (Q3). This is about software, not profit.

So? His answer doesnt only apply to software. He is talking about viability ofteh company to make money.

Comparing the NX to the WiiU and 3DS by saying we are going to offer Nintendo software means what exactly? That is what every Nintendo device does. He is not making a comparison in that regard.

3DS & Wii U had awful post-launch software output.

3DS launched in March 2011 with Nintendogs+Cats as the big 1st party title and Pilotwings Resort/Steel Diver as smaller support titles. The next 6 months had a total of two 1st party releases which were both 13-14 year old N64 remaster (Ocarina of Time 3D in June, Star Fox 64 3D on September).

Wii U launched in November 2012 and had two big 1st party releases, Nintendo Land & New Super Mario Bros U. They had two 1st releases in the following 9 months, Game & Wario in June & Pikmin 3 in August.

Having a consistent flow of 1st party software would be different than having 6-9 months stretches of only 2 games. He kinda mentions getting back to what Wii did, which pretty much had a new 1st party release every month for the first year.

I think what he's talking about is a more consistent output of 1st party software unlike 3DS/Wii U which had horrible post-launch lineups.

He's mostly refering to the software solution. Having a steady stream of games since launch and sharing most of the library between devices will help.

For example, taking in count 3DS and Wii U software, NX will have in ist first year NSMBU+Nintendo Land+Ocarina of Time 3D+Star Fox 64+Super Mario 3D World+Mario Kart 7+The Wind Waker HD+Pikmin 3+The Wonderful 101+Kid Icarus Uprising.

But I'm expecting NX to have in it's first year Zelda HD+3D Mario+Mario Kart+Animal Crossing.

1 year = 12 months

I think Iwata is tipping his hand toward more IP outsourcing. Hyrule Warriors success probably especially drove up interest in deals like this.

At the same end, I think Nintendo is looking to shore up some beaten down 3rd party franchises under its umbrella as exclusives. Things like Dead or Alive, Ace Combat, and even Megaman are ripe for their taking.

I really hope something like this is going to happen. There are so many dormant good IPs with a seizable Fanbase, if Nintendo could lay it's hand on just a few of those their next consoles are basically guaranteed to be hits.

Iwata: "Let me clarify the situation by making an unbelievably vague statement that raises more questions than it answers".

^EXACTLY , It was really hard to me to understend what he was saying because basically he made up a lot of meaningless words that don't really explain anithing

It means that they will sell the device at a profit from the get go, not like the WiiU and 3DS.

nothing more than that.

The 3DS was sold at a profit until they cut the price by $80. The problem they seem to be referring to is the fact that the 3DS had to suffer a price cut in the first place. Similarly the Wii U would have been a profit centre if it wasn't for the year 1 price cut to $299

Its a pretty ambigious statement but I think he's referring to software
