Forums - Gaming - Is a Holocaust game too far?

I can't even read most of this thread because this topic is so stupid. Are all war shooter games then wrong because war is really a horrible thing and shouldn't be trivialized in a game? Most war games don't even educate you on anything, just have you start shooting everything that moves. ;>

I agree, but I do think that some people had an interest to learn more about history from playing those games... If for nothing more than to be bitching fanboys who can say how innacurrate the thing is.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

@kas--i wasnt trying to say they were forced i was using them as a point that horrible things happened in every nations history that dont get as much attention as the holocaust b/c we didnt fight a global war dealing with them

Mesoteto, No one fought WWII because of the Holocaust. Everyone fought Germany because Germany fought them. There was not a single country that took up the fight for humanitarian reasons. Also, 6,000,000 people being extinguished is the single worst act in world history and it happened only 70 years ago. That’s why it gets so much attention.

I want to play a game called Revenge of the Jew. It could have everything from Moses taking a beat stick after the Egyptian pharoah to Albert Einstein squaring off in a cage match against Hitler.

How much fun would that be? I would probably buy two copies just to show my enthusiasm to the developer.

I think it's more the fact that the Holocaust was one of the biggest events of it in recent memory.  Stalin I belive has a higher kill total but that's not given as much attention because he was targeting one group of people aside from people Stalin thought were against him.

Still, it is stupid that Alexander Jackson is on the 20.  Sure he had Jacksonian democracy, but he also had horrible native american track record, suggested people ignore the Supreme Court AND tried to destroy the US bank system.  Making the being on money thing even more ironic.

There is nothing inherently wrong about making a game about the Holocaust.

Thats not to say a game about the Holocaust can't be done distastefully and be a horrible atrocity of its own...but it can also be tastefully done and it can be a powerful tool to educate people about what went on.

Games, like all technologies, can be used for good purposes and bad purposes.

While the Holocaust was horrible, I still give the nod to Stalin killing and/or imprisoning almost every group he could think of in the Soviet Union during his reign. He even went after his own doctors at one point. Now that's dedication to your paranoia. Hitler was an amateur.

I don't mean to keep picking on you Mesoteto, I just want history to say accurate, so I feel obligated to reply. Most Americans did not know about the holocaust until after the war. It was not until we liberated the camps that we knew what was going on. We had a good idea that people were being detained by 1942, but not that they were being murdered. What little info that made it to The States was just cast aside as propaganda. Germany was accused of atrocities that were untrue during WWI, and what little Americans did hear, they didn’t believe.
