lol maybe next generation

The market is just normalizing. The abnormal part was Japan having a strangle-hold on gaming in the first place. Gaming is now world-wide and the disbursement of studios and sales should reflect that.

The part that concerns me is how short-sighted many Japanese publishers are. When given the opportunity to grow a new market, they hang back and cling to the old one like a drowning man to life preserver. That, or they type-cast platforms without ever trying to push beyond those perceived boundaries. Sometimes I get the impression that most of the Japanese gaming industry is run by businessmen who aren't really interested in video-games or the people who play them.

But we from the Kingdom of Mobile already celebrated our victory last year...

No.

I like this statement. Sounds like they want to bring gamers who left the console market back into the fold rather than continuing to fight Nintendo over the dwindling remnants of the audience.

Just port all of the Vita stuff to PS4 and we're set for life with Japanese games on next gen.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

While I understand that the hardware companies want the home consoles to sell better in Japan. I understand as gamers, we want to see consoles sell well in all regions. But the truth is, home consoles don't fit into the on the go lifestyle very well, just like PC's don't. This is the reason why gaming in Japan has become so handheld and mobile device dependent.

Expecting the PS4 to sell the way that PS2 did in Japan is like expecting the Vita to sell the way the PSP did in the North America. Not that either system is bad but the markets have moved on and the development scene has changed. When the PS2 was out, while there were some JRPG's and Japanese focused games on other platforms, the vast majority of Japanese games were on PS2. PS2 was the development platform of choice by a long shot. Nowadays gamers and developers have more devices to choose from.

Last generation, even though PS3, 360, and Wii were really big globally and sold insanely well, we saw many of those more risky, more niche, more off the wall, and lower budget JRPG's hit the portable systems. Much of this was due to a lower development cost. It was also because the Japanese audience is more on the go then the western audience and gaming on handhelds takes up less space. This generation, we have the inclusion of mobile devices which have stretched the market even more with even less games being developed for the handhelds. This also helped to decrease sales of handhelds and, in the case of Vita, destroyed it's market in the America's.

Luckily, this generation, we're seeing Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo working hard at making development across several platforms under their respected families easier. This means, Sony already has several games on the way that are on Vita, PS3, and PS4. Microsoft has several games coming out on XB1 and PC. Nintendo is slowly getting there with Wii U and 3DS with a few games finally popping up and next system rumored to work around this concept.

In the end, don't expect all platforms to do well in all regions however in the future, we can expect what comes out on 1 platform for a company to also be on all their other stuff. All 3 consoles companies are moving to an Apple/Google style system where 1 game works on all devices.
